The 2023 Audi A8 stands as one of the shining examples of the modern flagship luxury sedan. While some rivals might prioritize comfort or per-formance, the A8 artfully blends both and highlights the latest in-car and safety technologies. The A8 was redesigned for the 2022 model year and carries over to 2023 largely unchanged. The A8 is sold alongside the sportier S8, which is covered in a separate review.
There is only one trim for the 2023 Audi A8: the A8 L 55 TFSI Prestige. The “L” indicates that this sole trim is the long-wheelbase version, ensur-ing rear-seat passengers have ample head- and legroom. The A8 L pro-vides 12.5 cubic feet of trunk space. Standard features on the Audi A8 in-clude leather upholstery, 22-way heated and ventilated front seats, a Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system, and a dual-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Buyers can select a number of options and packages available on the A8. For example, the Executive Package adds unique 20-inch alloy wheels, multi-color ambient cabin lighting, and a heated steering wheel. The Luxu-ry Package adds dynamic four-wheel steering, heated rear armrests, and power-adjustable rear seats that are heated, cooled, and have a massag-ing function. The Comfort Plus Package adds upgraded Valcona premium leather upholstery, heated rear seats, heated front armrests, massaging front seats, and a head-up display. For 2023, Matrix-design LED head-lights are now part of the Comfort plus package.
The Audi A8 comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine in a mild-hybrid configuration. It makes 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic trans-mission to Quattro all-wheel drive. It also features an adaptive air suspen-sion system as standard equipment, ensuring a blend of comfort and per-formance from any seat. The Audi A8 returns fuel economy of 19 mpg city, 28 highway, and 22 combined. The A8 requires premium fuel.
The Audi A8 comes standard with adaptive cruise control with lane-follow functionality. It also features a top-view 360-degree parking monitor. Add-ing the Executive Package includes adaptive cruise control with lane guidance, traffic-sign recognition, and—new for 2023—remote park assist capability. The Executive Package also includes intersection assist, which uses sensors on the front and side of the car to determine if a vehicle that you cannot see is approaching from your flank.
Base MSRP for the 2023 Audi A8 L 55 TSFI is $86,500, which undercuts the BMW 7 Series by about $6,000 and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class by a whopping $25,000. Options and packages can bring the price into six-figure territory. The Audi A8 is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranty.
