The 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is a subcompact luxury sedan. With a sharply raked roof, the CLA boasts coupe-like design elements, including small-but-serviceable rear seats and a small trunk (11.6 cubic feet). It boasts an upscale interior with premium fit and finish, as well as a lineup of turbocharged engines. The CLA was introduced for the 2014 model year and was redesigned in 2020. It carries over to 2022 with minimal changes.
Trims for the CLA are CLA250, CLA AMG 35, and CLA AMG 45. The CLA Class comes standard with dual-zone climate control, remote start, push-button start, a digital instrument panel, and an intuitive touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Premium Package adds satellite radio as well as larger screens for the instrument panel and infotainment system. This package is standard on the AMG 35 and AMG 45.
All versions of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class come equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The CLA250’s engine makes 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, routed to the front wheels or to available all-wheel drive (AWD) through a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The AMG CLA 35’s turbo-four puts out 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, routed to 4Matic AWD through a seven-speed automatic transmission. The AMG CLA 45 features a handcrafted version of the turbo-four that makes 382 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. It routes power to 4Matic AWD through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just four seconds.
The AMG 45 is available with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package. It adds a Nappa leather AMG performance steering wheel, a sport suspension with three-stage damping, and AMG composite high-performance brakes, as well as Race and Drift drive modes. This package also raises the top speed from 155 mph to 167 mph.
The CLA250 returns fuel economy of 25 mpg city, 36 highway, and 29 combined. Adding 4Matic AWD brings fuel economy to 24 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined. The AMG CLA 34 returns fuel economy of 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 and combined. The range-topping AMG CLA 45 returns fuel economy of 20 mpg city, 28 highway, and 23 combined. Premium fuel is recommended.
The CLA comes equipped with a handful of advanced driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, driver-attention monitoring, and blind-spot monitoring. The CLA also features crosswind assist, which can make small steering inputs to counter the effects of strong crosswinds while driving. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, parallel park assist, and a surround-view parking monitor.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 is $39,350. The AMG CLA 35 starts at $47,900. The range-topping AMG CLA 45 starts at $55,900. The CLA-Class is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty.
