The 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is a nimble compact sedan with head-turning looks and a fuel-efficient powerplant. The Elantra Hybrid was introduced for the 2021 model year, so it carries over into 2022 largely unchanged.
The Elantra Hybrid’s powertrain is comprised of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. This setup makes a combined 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Elantra Hybrid comes in Blue and Limited trims. The Blue trim takes greater strides to achieve efficiency: The payoff is fuel economy of 53 mpg city, 56 mpg highway, and 54 mpg combined. The Limited returns 49 mpg city, 52 mpg highway, and 50 mpg combined.
The Elantra Blue comes well-equipped with features like pushbutton start, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moving up to the Limited trim adds leather upholstery, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, advanced voice recognition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, LED taillights, driver’s seat memory settings, and heated and ventilated front seats.
Both trims come standard with forward-collision warning, driver attention warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Limited trim adds pedestrian/cyclist detection, junction-turn collision warning, and adaptive cruise control that can stop and go with traffic.
The Elantra Hybrid also comes standard with Safe Exit Assist, which uses the blind-spot detection sensors while the car is parked to determine if another vehicle is approaching. If someone tries to exit the Elantra Hybrid while the other vehicle is still inbound, Safe Exit Assist will warn the occupants or keep the door locked until the coast is clear.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue is $23,750. The Elantra Hybrid Limited starts at $28,250. Both trims are backed by a five-year/60,000-mile warranty, and the powertrain (including hybrid components) is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty.
