The Impreza is Subaru’s compact car. Available as a sedan or a 5-door hatchback, it does battle against the Volkswagen Jetta and Golf, Hyundai Elantra and Elantra GT, and Honda Civic. For 2020, it gets some light styling updates.
From the outside, Subaru subtly altered the Impreza’s front grille, bumper, and taillights. You also get the option of a new exterior color: Ocean Blue Pearl. Under the hood, however, it’s business as usual. Every Impreza comes standard with a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on lower trims, but you can upgrade to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters. Like most Subaru models, the Impreza includes all-wheel drive (AWD) on every configuration. The Impreza achieves fuel economy as high as 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined with the manual transmission or 28/36/31 with the CVT.
The Impreza splits its features across four trims: Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited. Included on the Base trim are 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, cloth upholstery, a 6.5-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 60/40 split-folding seat. Options consist of 16-, 17-, or 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, body-color heated side mirrors, a power driver’s seat, keyless access and start, automatic headlights, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, and a moonroof.
The Impreza gets Subaru’s EyeSight technology on all configurations equipped with the CVT. It comprises automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, sway warning, and lead-vehicle start alert. New for 2020 are automatic power door locks, which automatically unlock in the event of a collision. The only options are blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. Subaru tends to achieve excellent safety scores, and the Impreza is no exception: both body styles received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) Top Safety Pick + award in 2019.

Love the car. Will never have any other car than a Subaru. My former Impreza was hit on driver side by a tractor trailer on a busy interstate. My car was later totaled, but I was not injured and was able to drive the car back home. Totally recommend a Subaru . Mar 11, 2024

Love everything about car in relation to interior features. This was a one owner car purchased as my commuter car. The only slightly negative thing is I would have preferred a different color, though the dark blue is very pretty, I just think it easily shows dust and road film so more attention to exterior maintenance in my future.Jul 07, 2022

My first impression is that all trims of the imprezas are slow. I test drove the base models all the way up to the limited models. An impreza might not be such a good choice in a critical driving situation or in congested traffic where decent acceleration is needed, in order to avoid an accident. You would think as expensive as these little cars are, Subaru would include a more powerful engine. The trunk liners where the spare tires is located is comprised of an extremely cheap foam material, I mean very cheap. It looks like the injected molding foam that shipping companies use to add padding to items being shipped in a cardboard box. Very cheap stuff, painted black. Cmon Subaru, you can do better than that. Especially, for a very expensive car. I personally believe these cars are way overpriced for what you get. In my humble opinion, there are way better choices in the market place for much less money. Perhaps the biggest turn off for me is the old school control panel inside the cabin. Im sure the impreza is a reliable car, as I have heard that Subaru has a good reputation for reliability. However, Im not overly impressed with the Impreza. Especially, at what you have to pay for even a base model. I just feel that all Subaru cars and SUVs are over priced. If Subaru could figure out how to be more competitive, regarding their pricing, Im sure they would sell many more cars than they do. Dont take my word for it, though. Next time youre out on the road compare how many Subaru made vehicles you see in relation to the other comparable brands out there. Of course, this is only my opinion of my experiences in driving this brand. By no means am I an expert at all things Subaru. The next person may have a completely different opinion than me.
