For 2020, the Ford F-450 receives a few updates. It competes with the likes of the Ram Heavy Duty, GMC Sierra HD, and Chevrolet Silverado HD.
The front end of the F-450 Super Duty features a new bumper and grille design, improving airflow to the engine. The headlights have also been updated for a bold new look. Higher trims feature LED signature lighting to stand out.
The 6.2-liter gas-powered V8 and the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 carry over from last year. The 6.2-liter gas V8 will return 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Ford hasn't yet announced the updated horsepower and torque numbers of the 6.7-liter diesel V8. These two engines are joined by a massive 7.3-liter gas-powered V8. The latter two engines pair with a new 10-speed TorqShift automatic transmission to send power to the rear wheels or available four-wheel drive (4WD). As of this writing, the horsepower, torque, and increased towing and payload capacity for the 7.3-liter V8 have yet to be released.
Trims for the Ford F-450 include XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. The XL is a base trim that features aluminum wheels, vinyl bench seats, and AM/FM stereo with four speakers. It also includes modern tech features like trailer-sway control, roll-stability control, and a 2.3-inch productivity screen.
The XLT trim features 18-inch aluminum wheels, remote keyless entry, a chrome grille, chrome steel bumpers, and the BoxLink cargo management system. It also adds the base Sync infotainment system. Features like blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping alert round out the features found on the XLT.
The Lariat trim replaces the 2.3-inch screen with a larger 8-inch touchscreen and adds PowerScope trailer tow mirrors. Other features on the Lariat include dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable driver pedals, leather seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an automatic dimming rear-view mirror. The Lariat also adds 110-volt wall-style power outlets and the B&O premium sound system by Bang & Olufsen.
The King Ranch offers unique two-tone paint schemes, accent-color running boards, and accent-color front and rear bumpers. The King Ranch also adds LED box lighting, a remote tailgate release, and a voice-activated navigation system.
The lavish Platinum trim comes with features like body-color front and rear bumpers, chrome door handles, and retracting side steps. It also features a unique grille design, signature LED headlights, fog lights, and taillights. Inside, the Platinum features Onyx Argento wood inserts and heated and cooled seats.
The range-topping Limited trim rounds out the lineup with a satin-finish grille and exterior handles, along with a twin-panel moonroof for crew cab versions, dark ash wood swirl interior trim, and illuminated scuff plates with the Limited logo. It also features a Miko suede headliner, a unique leather pattern, and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Standard safety features include a reversing camera, a tire-pressure-monitoring system, traction control, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. All trims but the XL come with driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Pro Trailer Backup Assist is also now included.
The 2020 Ford Super Duty is slated to arrive in dealers by fall of 2019.
