The Bentley Continental GT Coupe is an opulent, handcrafted, and high-performance vehicle that was redesigned for 2019 and carries over for 2020. Frankly, no updates are needed; if you can afford this Bentley, you can likely get it exactly as you wish via extensive customization options. Any luxury sports car from Aston Martin or Rolls-Royce represents the Bentley Continental’s most significant competition.
The Continental GT walks the fine line between looking expensive without looking obnoxious. It’s low, long, and wide, with smooth panels and delicate front and rear lighting. Coupe and convertible versions both offer effortless sophistication. Even without delving into the never-ending list of bespoke configuration possibilities, buyers have the choice of seven exterior colors, seven different convertible fabric top options, and graceful 20-, 21-, and 22-inch wheel designs.
Bentley offers up the Continental GT in V8 and W12 configurations, both with all-wheel drive (AWD) and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 is rated for 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, while the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine comes in at 626 hp and 664 lb-ft. The V8 versions, both coupe and convertible, are rated for 16 mpg city, 26 highway, and 19 combined, but the EPA hasn’t provided numbers for W12-equipped trims.
Standard features include seating for four adults; power front seats with heating, cooling, and massaging functions; a built-in neckwarmer in the seats; a heated steering wheel; and heated armrests. Options include welcome lighting on approach and numerous choices for wood veneers, leather upholstery, and roof lining.
As for tech, the Continental GT is offered with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display housed inside a rotating wood veneer. A 10-speaker audio system comes standard, and upgrades include a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen system or an 18-speaker Naim system.
You aren’t going to find the Continental GT among the list of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash-test ratings, but there is plenty of available driver-assistance tech. Buyers can add a surround-view camera and traffic-sign recognition via the City Specification package. The Touring Specification option adds a more advanced adaptive cruise control system with traffic-jam assist, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, a head-up display (HUD), night vision, and predictive braking.
If you’re shopping for a new luxury vehicle and a Bentley fits your spending target (“budget” is hardly the right word here), then you likely already know you have some excellent options. The Continental GT should certainly be among them.
