In 2011, the Mulsanne replaced the Arnage as Bentley’s flagship four-door. In 2017, the model got a refresh that carries over for 2018.
The standard body style of the Mulsanne measures 219.5 inches long and 75.8 inches wide. The wheelbase spans 128.6 inches, creating cavernous amounts of rear legroom. A long wheelbase bodystyle measures 229.3 inches long with a 138.4-inch wheelbase.
Complementing the Mulsanne’s large proportions is a design that’s truly substantial. The upright grille, large circular headlights, 21-inch wheels, and long hood and trunk areas leave no doubts about this car’s status. Plenty of brightwork—all of it real metal—decorates every side of the Mulsanne, and Bentley offers tasteful two-tone color schemes that visually highlight the car’s contours and lines.
The interior is just as impressive. Everything is decked out in leather, wood panels, and chrome. The controls are encased in a thick layer of glass. The backseat, by default, seats three abreast but can be swapped with two rear adjustable bucket seats, including fold-out style legrests. Depending on its configuration, the car can also include solid-wood picnic tables or fabric rear blinds.
Mechanically, much about the Mulsanne is old-world classic, right down to the engine. The twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter 8-cylinder engine is part of an engine family spanning as far back in time as Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. In its modern incarnation, it produces a stout 505 horsepower and 752 pound-feet of torque and sends power to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Despite weighing almost 6,000 pounds, the base Mulsanne can sprint to 60 miles per hour in as little as 5.1 seconds, and it can reach 184 miles per hour. The advanced air suspension, which offers four modes for specific types of driving including a “Custom” setting, is anything but old-world.
Then, there’s the Mulsanne Speed. It treats its owners to 530 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, a 4.8-second run to 60 mph, and a top speed of 190 mph. In addition, the Speed variant gets unique wheels and interior quilting patterns, darker brightwork, and a sport suspension.
Technology-wise, the Mulsanne is more than modern. There are full LED headlights and taillights, a high-resolution 8.1-inch infotainment system with navigation, a reversing camera, four-zone climate control, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and blind-spot monitoring. Among options is a Wi-Fi hotspot, dual 10.2-inch displays for rear occupants, and a premium 2,400-watt Naim audio system.
At around $304,000 to start, the Bentley Mulsanne offers an unparalleled blend of classic English luxury and cutting-edge technology.
