At the zenith of luxury lies the new 2015 Maserati Quattroporte, with even more exclusive niceties than ever before. For both the SQ4 and GTS trims, the option of 19-inch Apollo wheels are now available to provide greater fuel efficiency and an improved ride, as well as the eye-catching flashiness of the anthracite finish.
If you want to go bigger, you now can also upgrade to GTS-style 20-inch wheels for an even better view of the brilliantly painted brake calipers and grand presence of this exquisite automobile. To complement the upgraded wheels, each model also now comes with a lightened chassis to heighten the thrill of the curvy roads and to give a boost to efficiency.
SQ4 buyers will be happy to know there are now 3 additional color options, complete with fancy Italian names, to finish the exterior of their new sedan. Go for Bianco Alpi, better known as Pearl White, to give a clean and simple look. Or choose one of the grey hues of Grigio or Grigio Maratea for a more classy and sophisticated appearance.
Maserati gives performance-bred GTS models a number of aesthetic exterior additions this year, mainly to distinguish it from its SQ4 counterpart and to bring out the sporty soul of the trim. This includes GTS badging in a number of locations, red-accented wheel center caps, Black Piano interior trim, lavish Poltrona Frau, premium leather interior, and color-matched lower body work.
This sixth-generation Quattroporte has two different trims to choose from. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) SQ4 is loaded with premium features and brought to life by a powerful 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which easily puts out an impressive 410 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque at a very low 1,750 rpm. This will get the tires spinning with little effort on the gas pedal, going from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, but gas mileage isn’t superb. With this kind of performance, you can expect roughly 15 mpg city/24 highway, which isn’t quite as exemplary as the rest of this Maserati.
Take it to the next level with the rear-wheel-drive (RWD), track-inspired GTS with a 190-mph top speed. Along with its distinctive styling cues, this model comes with a spirited, 3.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Paired with the recently introduced 8-speed ZX transmission (also equipped on the SQ4), the Quattroporte produces a whopping 530 hp, whisking you a quarter mile down the road in a snappy 12.7 seconds from a dead stop. Most who choose the GTS aren’t as concerned with efficiency as they are pedal power, but still, the GTS delivers a decent 13/22.
As you first sit in any of the Quattroporte models, you will have a strong impression of fanciful Italian styling. The leather and wood-trimmed amenities are abundant, yet the introduction of some Chrysler parts has turned off some potential buyers. Regardless of the elegance, somewhat bland designs have found their way into the interior. But there's still plenty of room for 5 adults to ride comfortably, and with the 18.9 cubic feet in the trunk, you can still haul a few precious items around town.
After its redesign in 2014, the Quattroporte grew in size with greater leg and head room inside to better accommodate passengers, and a wider stance to improve handling. Even so, there have been some that say the road feel of the Quattroporte still seems unresponsive and numb, even with the refined 4-wheel independent suspension. Others feel that the cornering is just right for the size of this 4-door sedan, and all agree the new exterior is well-suited to this car.
Italians always take it a step further when designing and building their works of art, and the 2015 Maserati Quattroporte is no exception. As with all lap-of-luxury sedans, you get opulence and power on demand. With strong competition from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, Maserati has brought to the forefront a strong candidate to stand alone. With its pleasing exhaust notes and cutting-edge style, this sedan is a great choice to go out on the town or take a three-city touring excursion.
To own a Maserati is to love a Maserati. Owners take pride in the long lineage of Italian craftsmanship that has been a staple of the region for generations. This automobile carries that pride into the future, but no major upcoming changes, other than improved output from both powerplants in 2018, have been leaked as of now.
