We purchased a Forester for our daughter to get back and forth to school. We had the car for over a year and resold it and actually made a profit after using the car for that period of time. Great car awesome in the snow great on gas as well.Jul 20, 2023

I have a 2012 Subaru Impreza. It was great for the first 3 years but then the Low oil light would come on. Then they rebuilt my engine after Subaru has a lawsuit against them about a major oil issue in 2015. After that I continued to have oil issues. I have had my subaru for 10 years now. I have tried to fix the Gaskets and Valves over time. I have spent about 5K or more to fix it and it is still not fixed. Every time I take it to someone new they say I still have an oil leak or gasket blown. I will not be buying another Subaru ever again. Either I have a lemon or the engine was very bad for this year?? 2012 Subaru Forester ran fine for 50,000 miles. After that burned oil like gas. After 150,000 miles car randomly stalls and will not restart. Now have misfire in cylinder 3, P303. Replaces coil, spark plugs and fuel injectors and still get P303 with random stalls. I would strongly recommend not buying this car. I will never again buy a Subaru. Nothing but a headache and pain. Have managed to put 15K on it in less than a year. No maintenance issues, but did have to replace the rear brake light lens as it was fogged up. Overall is a great daily driver and people hauler. Use it to travel between Charleston and Myrtle Beach, SCApr 19, 2013

Only recently bought it but it has been good so far. Only down negatives are that it needs a better automatic transmission and a few extra inches of space would make a huge difference. Overall satisfied so far. Will add more after having it longer.Jun 23, 2012

I'm planning on purchasing a new Subaru Forester, but I've heard that Subarus in general have problems with the engines leaking oil after 40K to 50K miles. Is this true? Has the problem been resolved

2012 Subaru Forester - Engine replacement or time to say goodbye
Hello - in the middle of a cross country move, and my 2012 Subaru Forester started knocking. Dropped it at the dealership today and they say the oil was low and there are metal shavings in the oil. The last oil change was less than 500 miles ago, and the dealership where I am moving from found no issues - I've not noticed any oil puddles under the car, and it doesn't have a history of oil loss like this. The dealership (where I'm stuck right now) couldn't tell me why this has happened. We still have about an 800 mile drive before we get to our final destination. I'm waiting on a quote for a rebuilt engine, but have no idea what the issue is. The car has over 200,000 miles on it. Would you replace the engine with a rebuilt or would you trade? How long can you expect a rebuilt engine to last? I know it's all a best guess, just looking for some opinions while I'm waiting. Thank you!
