Building on last year's overhaul, the 2012 Ford Edge gains Sync for all trims - albeit a cheaper and only optional version in the lower tiers - and all but the Sport also gain the option of a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine good for highly economical V6-like power. This new 2-liter EcoBoost puts out better torque than the standard 3.5-liter V6 and goes for 3 to 5 miles more on the same gallon of gas thanks, at least in part, to active aerodynamic enhancements - however it is available only with the default front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration.
The trim lineup for 2012 consists of the same SE, SEL, Limited and Sport present at this generation's outset, with the very same seating for 5. Over the debut generation, this Ford Edge is significantly more refined with updated style inside and out, improved cabin materials and sound insulation, more baseline power and a buffet of newly standard inclusions. It was a favorite then, but today's Ford Edge is well-poised to take over the midsize crossover market.
At the bottom of the lineup, the baseline offering comes with a few surprising amenities - above the expected minimums like cruise control and full power accessories, the SE also features integrated blind-spot mirrors, reclining rear seats, steering-mounted audio controls and configurable top speed and max radio volume via Ford MyKey. Highlights of the SEL include automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and satellite radio capabilities.
Moving up to the Limited will fetch features like heated mirrors, leather upholstery, powered and heated front seats, driver memory and a rear-view camera, while the Sport is similarly equipped, notably adding only a sport-tuned suspension and paddle shifters. Major options include rear parking sensors, keyless ignition/entry, remote ignition, power liftgate, adaptive cruise control with collision warning, a panoramic sunroof and a rear entertainment system in addition to optional inclusions of upper-tier standard features.
All-wheel drive (AWD) is now available across the board - last year the SE was left out - but fans of Fords on a stick may be disappointed in the economically tuned 6-speed automatic controlling every Edge. In spite of that, the 305-hp 3.7-liter V6 exclusive to the Sport brings it to 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds, but gets at best 18 mpg city/25 highway in its default FWD. The 285-hp 3.5-liter V6 standard in all other trims is just as thirsty with AWD, but gets about 2 more miles out of every gallon when coupled with FWD.
Although the Edge is certainly Ford's mainstream crossover, short drivers and tall passengers without their own butt padding will find a few minor annoyances. The seats are a little stiff, headroom can be limited in the rear (especially with the panoramic sunroof), and the height-challenged will have to find a friend to close the liftgate if they didn't opt for the powered version. Otherwise the driving dynamics are excellent for an SUV, the interior is easy on the eyes and adult elbows, and the new promise of 30 highway miles per gallon puts the Edge at least on the outskirts of stardom - if not right in the bull's-eye of excellence.

The car has great features really for a 2012 model year it was sort of ahead of its time, the touchscreen is a little finicky at times but hey it’s powered by Microsoft so my hopes wasn’t high to begin with lol! The car is a great value for what is, resale value on most Ford cars aren’t always top notch but it’s still a solid buy! The car is missing a good transmission , ford always made and used lazy transmissions sometimes the shift and be rough and sometimes the car fights to hold on to a certain gear (automotive journalists stated Ford did it for fuel economy)!! Compared to my Kia Sorento I had before this car , I’d say I like the Edge more so because it has more standout features that my ‘13 Sorento had!!Jan 14, 2025

What do I think the Feature on this Car? The Body Type is a SUV Crossover only Ford Edge has it for Model Make. The Value is worth working on my Budget Its an Affordable if not intent to apply my Credit and with Higher Interest Rate? Missing in this is the Low Mileage?.

Was expecting better gas mileage in town. Very good gas mileage on highway. Wished the car had running boards from the factory. Installed aftermarket running boards after purchase. Very pleased with the traction and handling in snow/ice conditions. Installation of aftermarket all-weather floor mats proved to be a good idea following later winter snowstorms.Mar 20, 2015

Does a lot of things well,,nothing over the top,,smooth,comfy,nice features (LTD) .... 1 yr 8k miles almost NO issues,,, sticky door handle just needed lube,,update for nav,took care of system freezing up... SYNC system poor voice recognition,with commands.. System can take your eyes off the road for manual inputs... Satisfied so far,except common problem with SYNC system!!!Jul 24, 2013

I love it! The style, and especially my ford touch. (love technology) Love the black tuxedo and a big plus for the chrome wheels! The steering is tight very easy to handle. I have the SEL trim. Lots of room for luggage Back seats folds done very easy. Back seats are roomy and sits 3 very comfortably . Great on fuel for a suv, I commute 78 miles round trip at least 4 times a week for work and it uses about the same as my 2011 ford fusion which I traded in for edge. Over all its a great cuv. The cons in my opinion is minor, I would still buy another Edge. I have seen the 2015 ford edge concept\2015 lincoln mkx concept (YouTube.com) and plan on buying one if its concept (interior )is very close to the actual build.Dec 01, 2012

gets a little loose with just the front wheel drive. Acceleration is excellent and with

2012 ford edge shutting of due to wiring?
So I bought a car Saturday, 2012 Ford Edge, it was running fine, then completely shut off on the highway, screens not working, but lights, charger port were working. Car wouldn’t turn over, I got it back today from the dealership, they said it was due to some wires under the driver seat causing it that we’re hanging and got cut when I moved the seat 30 minutes prior to leaving the dealership, I don’t think there should be any wires causing the car to not even turn over. Can someone tell me if this is true or not? I got it back today but feel like they just put a bandaid on it, it’s been very stressful with this dealership the entire process.
