After several major tweaks and additions last year, Acura's TSX carries over into 2012 with just a few new color choices. Not that anything needed to change at all - the only remaining complaint stems from the fact the TSX is a sports car, and so it has the firm suspension of a sports car. If a silky smooth ride over your typical pothole-ridden roads is what you want, a sports car is not how to get it - but the TSX does promise and deliver a balanced approach to comfort and performance most drivers find quite pleasing.
The 2.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder that has powered the TSX by default since its birth received another tweak last year for slightly better fuel economy, netting 22 mpg city/31 highway with the default 5-speed automatic. The optional 6-speed manual injects a great deal of fun but drops fuel efficiency a couple of miles per gallon. The new limited-production Sport Wagon body style introduced last year does slightly better than than the manual on economy, but like the optional V6, it is available only with the automatic transmission.
Although the four-banger puts out only 201 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, drivers have no complaints about its real-world acceleration ability. That said, the smaller engine leaves the TSX a bit wanting in the thrill department. Those who want sports-car power to go with the sports-car suspension would do well to opt up for the V6, which comes with several performance considerations above the standard offering and pumps out 280 horses with 254 lb-ft of punch for zero to 60 in just over 6 seconds.
The standard features list is huge for that level of performance under $30,000, including everything from keyless entry to an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, leather upholstery and powered front seats with memory for the driver's settings. Opting for the Technology package fetches features like a rear-view camera, voice recognition, real-time traffic and weather forecasting, the best stereo of its class and, for the wagon, a power liftgate. A climate-controlled cargo box keeps your drinks cold or hot, and while the sedan offers only about 12 cubic feet of cargo capacity, the Sport Wagon affords 61 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down - better than most wagons of its class.
As for safety, a complete buffet of standard inclusions ranging up to active head restraints helped the TSX earn top marks in every category in 2010, but it has yet to be tested on the latest, more stringent standards. If reliability is a major sticking point, you've come to the right maker - Acura is widely acclaimed as an impeccable alternative to the pricey repair and maintenance of German makers. Even though the German driving experience is second to none, TSX drivers frequently express their preference for cost efficiency over superficial things like minor differences in handling response and feel.

This car is very reliable, sporty and has a great pick up. Love the way it drives and is very smooth in the take off and breaking. The features that automatically came with the car was a great buying incentive for me.

Sporty look, has the paddle shifters for that pseudo manual feel, and fantastic fuel economy. This car generally gets a 5 star rating from me for most categories, because the Acura team knew what this car was, and what it wasnt. At the end of the day, this car will perform well for 180-300k miles assuming you do your basic maintenance. The issues that plague a lot of luxury cars just wont be an issue here. Highly recommended if you want that car that can do everything except for extreme performance and will last for years and yearsSep 21, 2014

I use this car as my daily commuter. Very reliable and comfortable. I'm 6'-3", no issue on long rides. I have a Thule roof rack with bike carriers, ski carriers and a roof box. I have never missed my prior SUV's, the Acura gets the job done. Would absolutely buy again.
Update Sep-2015:
I now have 36k miles on the car, continues to run like a top, no squeaks, no rattles. Sole issue was a failed mirror control switch - it can become wet from top of frame drips in wet weather with window open. Covered by Acura, no questions. This certainly isn't original, but you get a lot of bang for your buck with this Acura. I think it's good-looking too. It's going away next year, apparently, and the ILX certainly can't fill its shoes, from everything I've read (haven't driven one myself though).
Update, 8-22-15: Our lease on the TSX was up in June and we let it go back, even though the terms were good enough that buying it out would not have been dumb. After three years, and some experience in other cars, I docked it on power and back seats from what I rated it initially, and I would have docked it for ride if that had been an option. The best review I ever read of this car was on a Canadian car site. The reviewer liked the car a lot--as do I--but faulted it for not being cohesive--for suspension tuning that didn't match the power on offer and the steering; for a ride that was too nervous for the rest of the car, as if Acura at first decided to make it sportier than they ultimately did, or the other way around. In other words, for the rather nervous ride and the road noise, it needed to be more powerful and a sharper handler. It isn't really a sport sedan and it isn't really a luxury sedan. And my thinking about how to buy cars as changed as I've learned more and gotten more confident; when I think about what I can get on the used market for this money, there is no contest. I got the The SE package provides a little more sporty feel. Fun to drive. Sportier bumper and side spoiler provide eye catching appeal. Red stitching on black seats and trim along with the red accent lights on the black carpet inside make a contrast. The memory seat locations for 2 drivers is nice. The stereo system will rock! The reason I chose this car was based on a strict criteria. Had to be fun to drive, have cool styling, comfortable ride, full tech package, good gas mileage, and a wagon. a/c wiring melting
I brought my car in for its regular maintenance (always used dealership consistently). I was told that the a/c wiring has melted and requires $1300 worth of repairs & service. I am the original owner - May 2012), and have had a/c questions (long time to cool, lack of adequate cooling) since the beginning and have asked the dealership service to check the a/c at least every time proceeding summer. The service rep. told me she smelled something from my car. I had passed construction two lanes over about 1/3 mile from the dealership, so I mentioned that to her because as I passed the construction, I smelled the tar and residue connected with breaking of road top and earth. She quickly came back and told me that service found that the wires had melted, but there was no reason given to why this should happen. I live in a hot desert climate and the car was last in for its maintenance less than six months ago. My questions is what can cause the wiring to melt at (apparently) such a speed, especially since I have had my car maintained by the same dealership service and have been told the a/c is fine repeatedly. If I get this repaired by the dealership, they provide only a one year warrantee and I don't know if the cause would still remain. How do we find out the cause. I'm basically auto ignorant.

2012 Acura TSX wouldn't start after sitting for 4 days
After sitting in my garage for 4 days while we went on vacation in a different car, my 2012 TSX (61K miles) would not start. The first time I tried, the engine almost caught, but then died. I figured I had just let go of the key too soon and tried again, but all that happened was the starter cranked. I tried jumping the battery, which made no difference (I didn't expect it to since the starter was cranking). I tried several more times, and then on my last desperate attempt before trying to figure out how to work, I cranked the starter for an extended amount of time and it almost caught a couple times before finally sputtering to life. Does this sound like a bad fuel pump, clogged filter, or worn out starter? I don't know whether the idle days had anything to do with the problem. I have started my car several more times today with no problem. The battery is not quite 2 years old, has a 5 year warranty, and seems to be outputting plenty of power (I seem to have lost my DC volt meter, so I'll get a new one on the way home to check for sure). Has this happened to anyone else?
