Is this pontiac overpriced ?
I’m lookin into buying a 09 Pontiac g8 from a dealership it has 84k miles on it for $21,500, do you guys think it’s overpriced?

The rear-wheel-drive G8 sedan represents Pontiac's newfound determination to live up to its once-glorious performance heritage. The 2009 G8 comes in three trims.
The base G8 provides a 3.6-liter V6 that spins out 256 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque through a five-speed automatic with manual shift control. You can expect to get from 0-60 in around 7 seconds, but the EPA gives the V6 a mediocre 17/25 mpg rating.
The next trim level, the GT, packs V8 punch with a 6.0-liter engine that pumps out 361 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed automatic. A manual transmission isn't available. Track testing produced a 5.3-second jump from 0-60. Yet even with Pontiac's cylinder deactivation feature, which allows the engine to run on four cylinders when cruising, the big V8 gets an EPA rating of 15/24 mpg.
The GXP packs Corvette power with a detuned 6.2-liter V8 blasting out 402 hp with 402 lb-ft of torque. At this level, a six-speed automatic or manual transmission is available. Pontiac claims the bigger V8 cuts at least a half-second from the GT's 0-60 time, but it hasn't received an EPA rating yet.
Does it handle? is always the question with big American muscle cars. It looks like Pontiac did its homework for the G8. Its BMW-like front strut/rear multilink suspension produces handling characteristics that give the G8 European sport-sedan agility.
The base G8's standard equipment list includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, XM Satellite Radio, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, four-way power front sport seats, and a seven-speaker CD system. G8 interiors are a big advance over previous Pontiac offerings, with nicer materials, solid construction, and stylish design.
Standard safety equipment across the line includes front seat and full-length side curtain airbags, stability control, traction control, ABS discs with brake assist, and an OnStar communication system.

It handles and drives as well as it looks, be aware of ones that have been abused their whole lives. Maintenance goes a long way for any vehicle, the one I bought had almost 160k miles when I got it. Almost 90k miles later has had very few problems, mostly bulbs that burnt out. Nothing major at all, had a good service history that was a major factor in my purchase as well.Apr 19, 2022

The car is unique in that they were only built for two years. You get a sporty looking four door that is an eye catcher. I have already had two people what is that, since the badges have been removed. I bought the GT with the 6.0L, which provides quite a bit of pep when you push on the accelerator. Be aware that finding interior and exterior trim parts may be difficult as they were only built for the two years. I am really enjoying my purchase.Jan 26, 2021

Great four door sedan with stylish looks and plenty of room. The 3.6L V6 has plenty of pickup and enough power to push this car through all weather in a state like Michigan. While the car is automatic the driver shift and sport mode make it fun to drive. The car comes with stabilitrak-stability, traction control, remote door locks, remote start and trunk release. The Pontiac G8 is a GREAT car for those that need something for the family, but don't want to give up their fun car. This car has tons of space on the inside, is extremely comfortable for both short and long trips and is relatively quiet for what it is. At the same time, the L76 (in GT trim) and LS3 (in GXP trim) are rip-roaring power plants that can get the car going in a very short time (my GT will do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds). And, it's not just straight-line performance. The car handles great in the turns, especially considering how big this car is.
As with any car, there are a few issues that have come up with the G8 over time, but nothing major or hugely expensive. The G8 has proven itself to be a really reliable car. My own G8 (a 2009 Sport Red Metallic GT) currently has 24,000 miles and the only work that has needed to be done was all done under warranty.
The only drawbacks of this car are few:
- These cars were made right as the entire industry really started moving toward infotainment systems and more upscale interiors, so the interior has become prematurely dated. It's not BAD, it's just not modern. But, it's still a great interior for what it is.
- Not many of these were made, so there isn't a huge number of parts available for these cars. The engines are fine as they are LS-based engines so lots of parts there. But body panels and interior and exterior trim are hard to come by and command premium prices. There is good aftermarket support for these cars, but that tends to be geared for performance improvements, not replacement parts.
I am beyond happy with my G8 and intend on keeping this car for a LONG, LONG time. It's my daily driver during the non-winter months, but has also been down the drag-strip a time or two. Best of both worlds!
UPDATE (10/30/2015) - Car now has 32,500 miles and still puts a grin on my face every time I drive it. I've had no major problems over the last 8,000 miles since I wrote this review. The only thing that has truly gone wrong with the car in that time is that the out trim pieces of both front seats have broken where they attach to the frame of the seat. This causes the panels to sag. Apparently, this is a design flaw in the trim pieces and I have heard rumor that there is an updated panel that tries to resolve the issue available from GM dealers. However, I just used zip-ties to reattach them and you can't tell any difference from the way they originally were before they broke. Much cheaper than getting new parts I'm betting. Otherwise, this is still my favorite vehicle I've ever owned and I'm loving every moment in it!Apr 12, 2014

Wanted one of these when they were new but got a used Grand Prix GXP instead. Big mistake. The Grand Prix had every problem imagineable. Was a little hesitant to get another GM product, but glad I did now. These cars aren't easy to find and it took some time to find the one I wanted, but that is one of the things I like the most, they're pretty rare. For the price you really can't beat the power. Has been very reliable but does have the G8 steering wheel shake at high speeds and with very hard braking. I wasn't aware that this was a common problem so I had the car aligned, the tires re-balanced, and the rotors machined and new brake pads. Seemed to get a little better but still shakes slightly. I've read many G8 forums and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer as to the cause. Other than that though absolutely no problems with this car after almost a year of ownership. Would definitely recommend a G8 GT to anyone looking for an inexpensive sports sedan.

I own a 2009 Pontiac g8 gt and I can only say good things about it especially the power of a ls2 corvette engine under the hood. Unfortunately pontiac went out of business but this is such a great car I would have bought in to the company for a live time. If your looking for power under thirty grand this is the car for you with a 6.0L engine that Makes 361hp it will move but if you also want something that can handle the g8 has that too with just a tap of the brake you can move around a corner quickly. The interior of this car is also very nice and makes you feel as if you are one of those fancy European luxury cars and this car comes equipped with onstar. Overall the 2009 Pontiac g8 gt is a great modern muscle car but there are flaws such a terrible gas mileage so if your looking to go green don't buy this car.Jun 11, 2013

Rare breed on this side of the world. Thankfully some of them made it in before Pontiac went bye bye. Simply a rebadged Holden HSV8, this thing HAULS!! This was (and is) one of GM's best efforts in a performance sedan. It has the options to be cool and the performance to be extremely fun. The fit anf finish is very good. I am 6'5" and the seats fit and feel good. This car is very rewarding to drive. The Passport radar detector should come standard on this and the CTS-V.
When was the last time you loved, I mean loved....any car? This car is truly one you can love with a capitol L. It is a sport sedan, so not for snow driving...but that's why SUV's exist.
If you want a collector that is super fun, and will get more valuable over time (if you can find one) get this car. It has been a trouble free blast to own.Sep 06, 2011

Performance in a car this large and heavy is rather impressive, its essentially a 4 door Corvette that has no problem running with, say a late model M3. Build quality is OK. It would have been nice for GM to have a more impressive stock or optional stereo. Gas is ruthless to be expected around town, but on the highway isn't really all that bad. I have a fun time driving it, but need to take it well past 100 about once a month or so to fully appreciate the car.Apr 03, 2011

I love this car! Simply it is the 4 door Corvette that those with families will appreciate. The throttle response is crisp with the step off feel of the transmission strong from a stop.
The build quality is superb and the ride quality is good. The road noise is still heard and could be better softened by laminated side door glass.
The only complaint I have is that the recliner is manual and is very stiff to operate while seated in the car. Basically, you have to get out and adjust your seat which is surprisingly odd for the quality refinements of this car.
Perhaps the Australians do not mind, however in Canada we like the power electric recliner and have come to expect this option when all other functions of the seat are power.
The fit and finish of the exterior panels are very good indeed and rival vehicles worth ten of thousands of dollars more.
The six speed automatic transmission is programmed for fuel economy and is sluggish and not very responsive until you move the gear shift to sport mode. This adaptive mode learns your driving characteristics and operates quite well. I personally would like a competition mode to firm up the shift points more aggressively.
The Brembo brakes stop the car very well. The heavy dusting of the pads is annoying on the rims however a trade off for the performance of this brake system.
The air conditioning system struggles to get cold within 15 minutes of starting the vehicle when experiencing common 30C days, even when in recirculate mode it performs poorly.
The passenger seat does not move back as far as the driver's seat. I have compared with 3 other G8 vehicles and have come to the conclusion that the passenger seat track sits forward about two inches further than the driver's seat when fully moved back. For taller passengers this is annoying.

awesome car ..very smooth ride , very responsive ...lots of power even though it's only equipped with A V-6 ....Very smooth shifting .....Breaks are very rough though ....needs some repairs I guess ...with only 40,000 kms ...Car looks very sharp and generates many positive comments ...Gas mileage isn't the best ..22 hwy and 18-20 city but we knew when we purchased ..It's very sporty so gas mileage goes with performance ....Car is extremely fun to drive .. will put you back in your seats. Also gets 20 MPG on average
if i'm not speeding too much. Which is pretty hard to do.

The best Pontiac ever built. I've owned 3 Pontiacs in the past 15 years and my new G8 GT is a HUGE upgrade. It's really gorgeous looking and turns heads. Then you get on the 6.0 liter V8 and it turns more heads. Handles like a car half the size/weight. I can't recommend this car enough. A true performance bargain for a 4 door sedan with room for the whole family but lots of fun to drive at the same time. Do your self a favor and get the Onyx/Red interior. It really looks MUCH better than just Onyx. Also adds some red on the gauges otherwise it's black as far as the eye can see. Jun 07, 2009

The G8 with the V6 has more than adequate acceleration,
especially used with the transmission in Sport mode. Get 21.5
mpg combined. The manumatic transmission is a great help
when the weather is snowy. Build quality in and out is
outstanding. The Maverick Silver color is great. The only
negative I see is that the sunroof is noisy. But, this is a great
car. Get one while you can! There are great deals to be had.

This car is exactly what Pontiac has needed. It has superb quality and fit and finish is amazing! The performance is super. The truly wonderful thing about the G8 is the fact that it is practical, yet definitely a performance vehicle. The gas mileage is ok, but I guess good for a car with a 6.0L V8. The G8 is quiet, fun to drive, and good lookin. GM has definitely done an exceptional job on this car. Bravo! Now if only the rest of the Pontiac lineup was this good...Oct 19, 2008

Tire bouncing.
