Write a reviewSaturn has put some finishing touches onto the Ion for the line's final model year in 2007. First, base model engines get a 5 hp boost to 145 hp. In addition, the Enhanced Performance Package on the Ion 3's gets a 5 hp boost from 170 hp to 175 hp. Otherwise, Saturn has maintained the 9 trims (including the Red Line Coupe) from 2006: manual or automatic Ion 2 Sedans, manual or automatic Ion 2 Coupes, manual or automatic Ion 3 Sedans, and manual or automatic Ion 3 Coupes.
The sedans still seat 5 while the coupes seat 4 and maintain the 4 door design that increases accessibility to the back. Gas consumption across all trims averages out to the mid 20's (mpg) in the city, low to mid 30's on the highway. Automatic models have 4 speed transmission while manual models use 5 speeds. Air conditioning, power door locks, and cd player come standard in all trims, while sunroof, ABS brakes, and traction control come as options. Cargo space averages out to around 14.5 cubic feet for all trims (14.2 for coupes, 14.7 for sedans).
The 2007 Saturn Ion concludes a solid run with a base model that stays true to the original while incorporating new features. Saturn never conclusively addressed the recurring driver concerns about internal materials and road noise, and it shows in this final model. The Ion has maintained a consistent identity as an average performer with a below average price in the compact class. With the Astra set to replace the Ion in 2008, consumers can only hope that Saturn will finally start aspiring to do more than the minimum.

Performance - works well as an everyday car, handles well
Build Quality - only needed the fuel line replaced, and tires that came with the car wore out really quickly, but outside of that everything is great
Appearance - interior is nice and comfortable if not a bit cheap, exterior looks like an everyday car, but is tough and stands up well to small accidents
Cost of Ownership - good, not horrible, not great

Its a GM. Not thrilled about GM, never had any good experiences with the cars they make, from an engineering standpoint they suck. It has a decent 145 hp 2.2 liter 4 cylinder engine, but its mated to an automatic. Mar 16, 2011

great car, great looking fun to drive, interior leaves a little to be desired with a black dash and carpet and almost everything else is tan, good performance, acceleration braking and handling all very nice, well built car as far as i can tell, haven't had to get under it yet, gets great gas mileage, while i was driving it for 2 weeks i averaged atleast 32 mpg, thats with city and highway drivingApr 30, 2010

Economical and fun to drive (sounds like a car commercial) but it is. I don't like the obstructed view when at an intersection and there's quite a bit of road noise, but it's been a great car overall. The warranty is great and financing at 0% was awesome. What can I say other than I love my ride. It may only have a 2.2L making 143hp and 152fp of torque but it is just fine for me. I'm not a street racer and never will be due to the fact that racing is done on a track and only a trace. The streets are for driving on not racing and I fully agree with the street racing law in Ontario and I think it should be a federal law for all of Canada at 50km over the limit. Sep 06, 2008

i personally love the low sleek look of the QC ions, the performance is lacking only because of a VERY conservative tune from the factory, but by adding a couple bolt ons and retune, it wakes the ecotec right up.
I dont like the fact that there is so little aftermarket support for the Ion, but what is out there is very well built. I love driving the car, and get quite a few compliments on it.Jul 07, 2008

Great gas mileage, getting about 31 mpg highway, 25ish in town. Pickup on the Ion 3 is a noticeable difference from the others. Interior is stylish and roomy for a "two" door. The rear doors are "suicide" style and very convenient for getting items in and out, as well as people. Love the fold down rear seats and the way the front seat folds down and has a hard plastic backing for protection. As a brand new car, with full coverage insurance, out rates only went up $57 every 6 months from our 2000 Cavalier. The first major maintenance, spark plugs and wires, trans flush, etc. is not due for 100,000 miles. Love that also! Apr 03, 2008

this was the first new car that i bought. i got the 5-speed manual, i test drove the automatic and the manual is much more fun to drive. if you're looking for power, this is not the car for you. it gets decent power, but don't think you're going to impress anyone. this car can whip through turns pretty easily, if it had more power (like the red-line) it would be much more fun to drive. great gas mileage, no reliability issues, and for under $200 a month it was definitely worth it.Mar 28, 2008

The ION has failed to build upon the S-series success and barely squeaks by with a shade over 100k sales a year, a good chunk of them going to rental fleets. This car is an afterthought in a class filled with excellent offerings such as the Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, and the Chevrolet Cobalt. I would recommend AGAINST buying this car in a heartbeat. For the price you pay for this Saturn, your money is better spent elsewhere. This car is a major disappointment.Mar 16, 2008

The Ion is a quick, sleek, and affordable Coupe that really is a 4 door without looking like a sedan thanks to the dual suicide doors(and the kids cant open them on the road)

This is the 2007 Saturn Ion. to be exact, it is the 2007 Saturn Ion 2 midlevel, with the sun-roof and spoiler package. This is the last year for this wonderful car, as it is going to be replaced by the 2008 Saturn Astra, a three or five door hatch. Anyway, back to the Ion. This year, all engines earned an additional 5hp, bringing ours to 145hp. This sound small, but considering that the car is mostly plastic, this is quite a substantial amount of power. It is enough to spin the tires and make people look your way. It is a credit to their luck if they do look your way, for this model features tateful brushed aluminum accents, and ours has a spoiler and a power sun-roof. It really makes you reconsider the north-american auto market, and for me, it put Saturn on the radar. I am really sad about Saturn's decision to abandon this car for the new Astra hatch. I have a 2007 Ion 72,010 miles on it. my car didn't turn on last night. Was told 3 weeks ago need new battery. Got new battery today and still wont turn on. Is it a kill switch issue, locking it?
2007 4 door Saturn Ion dead battery but got new one, and car stuill wont turn on. Shop tested, and says starter is fine. Is it the ignition switch causing this problem. The one with the recall I keep hearing about? Could the ignition create an electrical problem preventing the battery from turning on the car? Car was running perfectly well until it died last night.
