Related to the Ford Five Hundred and built on the same platform as the crossover Ford Freestyle and basically the replacement of the Sable As always, the Mercury-branded twin of these similar vehicles is the more upscale.

Mercury is very proud to tell the world that the 2007 Montego has a number of best-in-class (large, 5-passenger sedan) ratings. Those would be interior room (128.7 cubic feet), trunk room (21.2 cubic feet), cargo flexibility, rear-seat comfort. The 3.0-liter Duratec DOHC V6 puts out 203 horsepower. The standard transmission is an amazing 6-speed automatic that "learns" your driving habits and then adapts its shift points to those habits to maximize efficiency in both power and fuel economy. An available Continuously Variable Transmission (another first-in-class offering) will keep the engine operating at highest efficiency on the highway while keeping the power up. A full array of airbags is available on this yearÃ¢Â?Â?s Montego; the side-impact and side-curtain units must be opted on through the Safety Canopy package. The car has earned stellar crash-test ratings from both the NHTSA and IIHS. For this year there are nine paint colors, three cloth interior colors, and two leather seating-surface colors. Mercury's affinity for satin-aluminum and small chrome detailing lives on inside and out, and woodgrain and leather interior accents also lend to that distinctive look and refined feeling.
