The Maserati Quattroporte represents the combined efforts of Italy's finest automotive traditions - Maserati, Ferrari, and Pininfarina - all wrapped up in an elegant luxury sports sedan.
The 2005 version, first to reach these shores, was pronounced a classic once its Formula-1-inspired transmission was set to automatic mode and "clunky" shifting ensued. In 2007, Maserati offers a $1,250 optional six-speed ZF automatic transmission for those luxury performance buyers who prefer a more Teutonic shifting experience.
The addition of the ZF automatic necessitated the replacement of the DuoSelect six-speed sequential manual gearbox and its torque tube/transaxle setup for a conventional transmission arrangement with a Standard equipment retains the DuoSelect transmission with its very slick Formula 1 paddle-shifting mode. It continues to be "clunky" in automatic mode for light-to-moderate driving, but once you're hooked on the paddle shifters, you'll never use the automatic mode, for the engine sings in Italian operatic tones.
Under the hood, a sensuous 4.2-liter, dual-overhead-cam V8, tuned by Ferrari/Maserati's GT team, produces 396 hp at 7,000 rpm - 500 rpm below the redline - pushing the 4,400-pound sedan from 0-62 in 5.6 seconds and to a 168-mph governed top speed. Its fire-red, crackle-finish cam covers with a sculpted matte-black intake plenum prominently feature Maserati's trident logo, leaving no doubt as to its parentage.
Interior appointments are pure Italian elegance at its finest: The cabin is quiet, comfortable, and swathed in luxurious, soft leathers in a wide range of colors.
Maserati has its Teutonic and Nipponese rivals, but it also has the only Italian luxury four-door - or quattroporte - sports sedan driving experience - an experience that some reviewers claim went beyond "ultimate."

I love the beauty of this car, both inside and outside. Its stunning and its quick. A true design masterpiece to be enjoyed on good roads, both in the city and the country. I do feel bad for the numerous cows that gave up their lives to make the stunning leather interior. Sep 02, 2014

Test Drive in August, 2008, at the Pasadena dealership. More why the test drive later . . . All I can say is the performance of this car is quite breathtaking. The 400 Ferrari horses under the hood are chomping at the bit to be let go. The exhaust note is gutteral perfection. I WANT ONE - but, alas, I cannot. But at least I got to drive one. The stance is solid, the suspension is taut, and the steering is blissful prescision. On top of all that it has jaw-dropping appearance and exudes luxury few vehicles have. If I ever hit the lottery, one of these would be in my garage.
The test drive we (Bobby joined me) were allotted was way too short, but it was a thrill. Bobby and I took turns driving. I only got it up to about 80 on the 210 heading west just past the Rose Bowl. On the return run, I think he got it over 100 as we exited the 210 at Orange Grove. Did I mention the exhaust note was pure ecstacy?

On the negative side, you have to get the car serviced at your local Ferrari dealer. Most likely the15,000 mile service runs around 2 to 3 grand. But if you can lay out 120k for the car, what's a measly couple of grand?
Why the test drive - I received a postcard from Maserati where they offered a test drive. As a reward I would get a gift from Omaha Steaks. I figured, what the hell. I like hot cars and I love steaks - there you go. I finally sent in for the steaks. We grilled them - they were OK. Sorry, Omaha Steaks - I don't see what the big deal is. I have gotten better steaks at Costco. I would not buy anything from Omaha Steaks – I just don’t get it.
On another note - I continue to lust for the Maserati, or an Aston Martin. Heck, even a GTR would be nice at 1/2 the price.
UPDATE - The Pasadena Maserati dealership shuttered about a year ago. Now you have to go all the way to Beverly Hills of Calabassas to check out the new Tridents.Mar 29, 2010

Kár, hogy nincs benne légkondi a Lanosba' volt,azt asszony is szerette,ez nem tetszik neki annyira, azt mondja pattogós nagyon. Amazing four door luxury saloon which handles like a two seater sports car. I remember driving one of these on a closed circuit very enthusiastically and it felt so right. Great feedback through the steering and the brake pedal gives you great confidence when it's time to stop.
Also one of the best paddle shift gearboxes I have used.Nov 21, 2008

Like I said, you can go to Heaven, or, you can drive Quattroporte, same thing. I could talk for years, but...unless you try it...you could't never imagine what it is. door, it handles like a sports car and to me, it out
does the s600. Fully loaded it costs $150,000 so in
my opinion it is pretty achieveable. It definitely turns a

Drove the 4.2 Executive GT version of the Quattroporte on 22nd Aug 2008. A little uncomfortable for me to drive, but handles really well, and is very quick. Not as much room in the back as there should be. Brakes were a little soft, but sport mode on the suspension really tightened up the ride.Aug 23, 2008

It's an amazing car to drive...great response from the throttle and the steering...just an amazing car. The Italians know how to build some cars people. I suggest you rent one of these cars and take it to a winding road and step on the pedal. It's a beautiful car. It's a bit expensive, so I suggest to rent it and see what I mean.Aug 06, 2008

my car is a very luxurious and presidential car with a sporty edge. great interior and clearly Italian like me when a car like that drives past you can't do anything but look and wish you had it I love every second of it. Clearly I'm to young to drive it but I have a driver.

beautiful car that wants to go fast, wout auto transmision it is not a good city or traffic car. the car can tend to feel like it is a pack of wild horses that you r fighting or holding back as they want to run fast - a love hate sort of thing. generates lots of stares and vip parking based on the lines, and incredible design.
