Write a reviewFord made no significant mechanical or interior upgrades to the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid, though it did offer the eco-friendly vehicle in a number of new colors (Vista Blue Metallic, Dune Pearl, and Tungsten Gray), as well as with some new upgrade packages, such as a Silver Appearance Package with silver body accents. As in previous years, the Escape Hybrid was available in both front-wheel and four-wheel-drive versions.
The Escape Hybrid's innovative powerplant consists of a fuel-efficient 2.3-liter four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine and a compact electric motor, which powers the vehicle up to 25 miles per hour, conserving fuel.
Other hybrid-related technologies include an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT), which results in seamless acceleration, and regenerative braking, which generates electricity when you apply the brakes to recharge the battery. According to Ford, the hybrid powerplant produces 70 percent better fuel economy in the city than a traditional gas-fueled four-cylinder Escape.
That may be true, but some drivers expressed disappointment at not getting the fuel economy they had hoped for, particularly during city driving. Ford notes that the Escape Hybrid should average about 30 miles per gallon, which is acceptable for an SUV but not impressive for a hybrid, and not a substantial improvement over, say, a standard gas-powered sedan. Others noted that the Escape Hybrid can feel nose-heavy, thanks to its sightly heavier body weight due to the hybrid engine. Some also noted the vehicle is noisier than expected, though interior comfort and handling are said to be good.
Overall, drivers felt that the Escape Hybrid was an acceptable, though pricey, alternative to standard gas-guzzling SUVs, enabling them to make fewer trips to the gas station while still having plenty of room to haul around the family.

A delight in bad weather -- a delight in good weather. Lots of interior room - plenty of cargo space - plenty of people space! Im a BIG person ### and even with the family, bother, wife, etc etc it is comfortable - and ECONOMICAL! The hybrid has learned from our driving patterns and kicks in as needed - saves us LOTS of money! Havent found an alternative yet... but Im looking..... At 275,000+ miles Im going to have to give it up . :(May 18, 2023

My wife and I really like this vehicle. She has a passion for yard saling and this car is great for those stop/start situations. Great fuel economy for an SUV. The oddest feature of the vehicle is the feeling that you're sitting in a truck because the driver's seat sits higher than you would expect. Not a bad feature, just takes getting used to. Impressive amount of cargo space, especially with the back seats laid down. Insulation from road noise could be improved, but the radio easily covers the sound.Sep 08, 2014

This car gets the best gas mileage out of any other AWD car I've seen. The hybrid makes this a very economical SUV with AWD/4WD. Nice ride and very few problems. I have loved this car! Lots of space for a family.Jun 06, 2014

Not as much fun to drive, does the job well enough. Gas milage good for the size of car - I regularly get at least 35 mpg on the road. I feel safe and in control, just not so much on the fun side. I added navigation and dvd player after market so the kids like it.Apr 01, 2014

Got on the bandwagon of really wanting a hybrid
and not wanting to let go of the Escape. She is
GREAT and I love her/him......the name is PAT
because it's a hybrid and very confused. She was
stoled for a brief moment (enough for someone to
set up home and smoke crack and leave hair
weaves, cheap liquor bottles and other creepy and
smelly articles of clothing.....oh, and used dental
floss. When I got her back she went in for a serious
detail to get the crack juice smell out of her and
ALL remains of the horrid smell out of her....poor
thing....she never recovered but she is mine and
will be with me until I can afford a new

Don't believe those who say they wont pay for themselves. This little SUV AVERAGES 32 mpg. I have yet to get less than 27 mpg. Solid as a rock, Incredible quality and low maintenance. Plenty of power.Apr 24, 2008

I am never going to pay $32,000 for an SUV that doesn't even have 200hp, you can't tow anything with it, offroading is not recommended, and the A/C shuts of in bumper to bumper traffic. We test drove it in the city and highway for 20 miles and the mpg never got above 28mpg. I am still upset with Kermit the Frog for recommending it to me, he is right though, its not easy being green. Get a Highlander if you are still dead set on a Hybrid, or wait a couple of years until they get betterJan 06, 2008

This is a great car for the money-- it has excellent gas mileage (If you're willing to alter you're driving a bit, it's possible to get close to 40mpg in the city!) and plenty of space for people and stuff. Add AWD, and it's even good in the snow.Dec 02, 2007

2007 Ford Escape Hybrid - Power Steering Loss (Codes in Details)
2007 Ford Escape Hybrid (Approx 200K Miles). Vehicle had been running fine throughout the summer day as with any other day. It was running and in park for several minutes. Car was turned off, turned on again and reversed out of parking spot as normal. Put into drive, rolled forward a few feet when the wrench light/audio alerted and Power Steering Loss was felt. The power steering loss does not correct itself after re-start nor after codes cleared. I’ve checked fuses #25 & #32 in the fuse box under the hood and fuse #35 in the cabin on the passenger side. I don't see any obvious damage to the Power Steering Control Module in terms of a bad smell or burn marks or obvious visible wire issues at the connections. Codes are... C2792 = Power Steering Motor Circuit Short to Battery + B1318 = Low Battery Voltage at Module B2277 = Power Steering Motor Malfunction Any thoughts please on more troubleshooting options and a financially efficient direction moving forward. Thank you.
