The Toyota 4Runner has a new look for 2006 both inside and out, with an updated grille, bumpers, lamps and lower cladding and upgraded upholstery. Bigger bumpers, more noticeable fenders and standard skid plates lend this vehicle a rugged outdoorsy look, making it clear that Toyota wants to put the "sport" back in sports utility vehicle with the 2006 4Runner. However, the 4Runner is not without some high-end interior touches. Some of the high-tech options include a navigation system with a rear-mounted camera to assist in parallel parking and backing out, Bluetooth technology and a jack for portable audio devices.
The 2006 4Runner is available in three trim levels, which include the SR5, the Sport Edition and the Limited. All are available with a V6 or V8 engine and two or four-wheel drive. A third-row seat is available in some combinations, but users complain that it offers too little legroom and greatly reduces the available cargo space. Prices for the 2006 Toyota 4Runner range from approximately $27,000 to $40,000.

My third 4Runner. It feels like Im home as I approach retirement with plans that this is my last hurrah - never wanting car payments in the future.
It runs like a brand new vehicle! It has, clearly held up well over the past 17 years.

Elevated comfort, throwback features with analog gauges, exceptional engine designed to be driven for miles, feature packed for road trips. High use of gasoline but burns regular fuel. This vehicle wants regular oil changes, filters change and scheduled maintenance performed. May 18, 2023

I bought this reliable fun 4Runner used in with 196000 miles in 2018 and have done regular maintenance with repairs costing far less yearly than a car payment. Traveled 40,000 miles and my biggest con is the price of gas and need to fix air conditioning.Aug 22, 2022

I couldnt believe this SUV drove more like a luxury full-size car and a truck. Very smooth and refined. For 2006 this vehicle felt new! Everything worked well. This vehicle was in terrible condition. Way too much rust, battery acid corrosion and scratches everywhere. The steering was terrible and the breaks ground like sand was in between the brake pads. This vehicle isn’t worth more than $5k. Apr 01, 2022

This car was perfect! Easy to accommodate the needs of a family on the go. Stylish for the drive around town with adults, roomy for family trips including the dog! Worked well as a teen first car also, safety was not a concern on the part of the vehicle. It never left us stranded. I would recommend the 4runner to anyone. I have put 200K miles and still have the original brakes, battery, etc. on the car. What other car could you say that you have 200K with no issues. I have only changed the oil on the car. I love this car. Feb 25, 2015

I like Toyota 4runners. They're dependable. They're comfortable. With some pretty intelligent ideas put into the entire vehicle. Handles very well for a bigger SUV. Has superb get up and go and very acceptable gas mileage. Hauls my groceries and my canoe. As well as plenty of passengers with gear. Great for camping in any weather. Blows icy cold in summer. If you're looking for a mid size SUV, get a 4Runner V6. It has timing chain and sealed auto transmission, which equals no maintenance required except for oil changes every 5k miles. Just wish they made these with 3rd row seats. Aug 11, 2013

4th gen 4runners are a big mid-size SUV. Their truck-like body on frame construction makes them a really sturdy companion. Reliability has been great, I haven't used it off road, but it is very comfy on road, and for a high, heavy vehicule, roadholding is quite good. lots of cargo space and rear seat legroom is very good.May 17, 2013

The acceleration is awesome, the braking on a dime. The saftey features sold me F and R and Side and Curtain airbags, This is a fun car to drive. The car handles a little ruff like a truck sometimes but always maintains contact with the road. THe pwr ourlet in the back came in handy on a number of ocassions.Mar 17, 2012

This truck/SUV class vehicle is known for top of the line quality. Engine performance on the V6 is sufficient for normal driving conditions. Steering around corners is acceptable when driving appropriate for road conditions. Quality is unquestionably the most compelling feature. Keep up with the maintenance and you'll have a vehicle that will maintain a very robust resale value. Gas mileage is adequate, better than the large gas guzzling SUV's and within range of the small lightweight SUV's. TCO is relatively low. Nov 24, 2010

The power it has being a V8 is great on the freeway and going up mountains. The full time 4wd with low range is great in rain or snow. The only negative on the car is the gas mileage a v8 with full time 4wd is not going to get good gas mileage. Mar 04, 2009

When I start the car, the rear windshield wiper comes on one time .
Since the rainy season, I used the rear wiper arm one time. Now whenever I start the truck up, the rear wiper arm does one pass and tucks itself back in. I have all the switches on the control arm in the off position. Even the intermittant selector is off. I can't get it to stop doing that.

When I accelerate the "front end" makes a "whirring" sound that gets louder. The should decreases when you take your foot of the gas or slow down. Does not happen when the vehicle is not in gear, or when engine is rev'd but out of gear. Might be in the Differential or axles, hubs
