I have an offroad sport/towing model that has a 5 sp auto with cooler, 9 inch rear with 4:11 gears and much more,had since 20100 with no issues and that thing can pull off of a light really well becasu of gearing. The vehicle was not what the picture showed . It was wrecked on the drivers side, the hood was also out of alignment, the driver seat was ripped in several places , running boards were rusted out , and tires would not have passed inspection. A disappointment , especially after having driven an hour one way to see this vehicle!! After looking it over, the price on this Ranger was, in my opinion, over priced!!! Oct 24, 2021

This Truck is a decent vehicle, depending on its condition. This truck uses old school tech unlike a lot of more modern vehicles, which makes it feel more rugged. The engine produces enough power to do what you want, and the cab and bed have plenty of room to store your tools. Equipped with a manual transmission, you won't find a better light truck. Aside from the great looks it has a lot to offer. It's build very solid and you can feel it just from driving. Nothing feels out of touch to the driver. Plenty of interior room as long as you are in the front, however taller passengers should be in front. If you do have the manual, you're front middle seat is just an arm rest. If you have the option, go for the third door. Maintenance was very simple and cheap for a truck. I never had an issue towing, off-roading, or carrying cargo. The 4.0 V6 gives you plenty of power for whatever you'd need, and can be easily increased for those of us who can't get enough. The prices on these do vary greatly, but they are reasonable and worth every penny. Older and higher mileage versions, or Mazda B versions for that matter, are still worth the look/buy. Fuel economy ranges, but I manged 20/21 Highway with 16 average in the city. These trucks are great and have so much to give and just keep going on and on. I highly recommend a Ranger. Apr 07, 2012

The exterior is eyecatching, the interior not so much. Works great and is built for off raoding despite how it looks. The skid plates under the engine, trans and fuel tank are a pretty good clue. The LSD in the rear and electronic locking front diff is another hint.. Aug 13, 2010

I love my Ranger, the 3.0L plus the 5 speed is great on gas, it takes heavy loads like a champ, Been driving it more then a year and a half and I can't stop loving to drive it, it's comfy on road trips, and other then the pineon seal the maintenance has been simple! 2006, bright red, XLT, 4x4, 5 speed, with the improved 4.0L V6. Who could ask for anything more in a Ford Ranger? This truck lasted me 3 years, 3 accidents, and many trips to Maine. I only had minor problems with it. A tempermental fuel shutoff switch, a bad hub, and driveshaft Ujoints. All easily fixed and cheap enough. And all attributed to how I drove this thing. Love my truck- she helps me make cash. My only regret, is that I didn't buy the extended cab. She does squeak and rattle, but thats not unusual for pickup trucks. Mine's the 4 cylinder and gets great gas mileage. I've had several pickups over the past- and this one is my 2nd best. The best was an '87 Nissan 4x4 King Cab. That truck was called the Red Zeppelin. Pretty much bad ass; The Red Baron is quick, handles good for a truck, havent had to repair anything or replace anything besides normal maintenance, looks sexy, fun as hell to drive, has a fancy, yet conservative, interior, and sounds like a hauss with dual 40 series out the back. This is the first small truck I have owned.
I did allot of research on small trucks, and found the Ranger to be the most trouble free.
It has a dated design, but , all the "bugs" are worked out of it. This truck I got has the 3.0L engine, it has good power and great fuel economy. The 4.0L engine does have more power, but , fuel economy approaches V-8 territory.
The 4 door extended cab does come in handy and the ride of an extended cab is much better then the regular cab.
Combined city and highway mileage is good, I get over 20 mpg. My old truck was around 14mpg , so it is a vast improvement.
The truck rides well and is quiet. No squeaks or rattles, even with it being purchased used and having 55000km. ( the truck now has 147000km and still drives fine)
This truck handles well on the highway, and in the city. I have no complaints with this vehicle, except it is a little under powered when you need to pass some one( the 4.0L would work better here)
The transmission is a 5 speed auto and it seems to shift fine.
Brakes work well and anti lock performs when needed.
Despite being 2 wheel drive , the truck works fine in winter conditions. We added a cap on the back and it seems to help with snow traction ( added weight)Apr 12, 2009

Performance from the 4.0 V6 is pretty good in my opinion, I'm not thrilled so far with the 5 speed auto tranny though. With 4X4 engaged I feel confident going anywhere during the winter or when off roading. These trucks look great, but the quality of building matierals could be better. Gas mileage with the 4.0/auto/4X4 combo is beyond poor at just about 14 city and 17 highway, but it is a truck, so I expected that when I bought it.
Overall this is a great truck, and serves the purpose I bought it for, which was getting around during winters in northeastern PA and hauling stuff when I need to.Nov 15, 2008

Wonderful and reliable truck. You can tighten your torsion bars and stick oversized tires underneath without a lift. This truck does great offroad may it be 2wd or 4wd. It sounds wonderful with an exhaust. It isnt a hotrod but will crawl through anything with the right tires.Apr 08, 2008

Shifts really easy with the 5 speed. Not much cab room in the back seat, but who sits there anyways. Decent power from the 4.0 V6. My daughter has a 2006 Ford Ranger that has recently been stalling. Happened 3 times last week. Went to shop and was told the starter was bad so had that replaced. Happened this afternoon once while in park. She was able to start it up after with no issues. Any thoughts on what to check? Is there anything I can check/do on my own without having to take back to the shop? Not against that, I want her in something safe, just don't want to be taken advantage of not knowing anything about cars. Any advice would be appreciated.
I have a 2006 ford ranger and the dashboard lights and the park light stop working. My head light and turn signals works, I checked all the fuses and they're good. Can anyone help me with this problem ?
Randomly Ssalls when breaking or slowing down. It doesn't appear to have any patterns to figure out the cause and sometimes it will go a day, a week or so, until it does it. Sometimes happens several times.
