Takes about 2 days for battery to be drained. Disconnected rear hatch plug in bc rear hatch ajar kept coming on. Still have drain problem.

Chrysler introduced the PT Cruiser for the 2001 model year. A convertible model was added in 2005, and several interior and exterior styling updates came in 2006. Changes this year include a new headlight design, altered taillights, and a restyled grille. The dashboard has also been redesigned, for a more mature look, and a new audio system features an input for portable devices. The center stack, seat fabrics and panels have also been changed.
There are three power plant options for the PT Cruiser. The base engine is a 2.4 liter DOHC four cylinder engine, making 150 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The Limited and Touring trims may be equipped with an optional turbocharger, which bumps up horsepower by 30. The GT gets an enhanced version of the 2.4 liter four, which delivers 230 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque. The turbo versions of the Limited and the Touring use a four-speed automatic transmission. The GT is available with the automatic or a five-speed manual.
Chrysler offers the PT Cruiser in two body styles and four trims. The base PT wagon is equipped with power accessories, a CD audio system, and keyless entry. The convertible adds air conditioning. The Touring model adds a few additional standard features, and the GT provides more of a sporting orientation. The Limited PT includes a power driver's seat and a moon roof. A six-disc CD changer and heated seats are optional on most models. The Limited trim is only available with the wagon body.
No PT Cruiser is particularly sporty with respect to handling, but the GT provides the best driving experience. Along with the 230 horsepower engine, this top shelf model gets a firmer suspension and wider tires. Drivers have reported noticeable body roll through the tighter turns, and base engine acceleration which requires a great deal of patience.
The PT Cruiser has been in high demand since its 2001 release, largely due to its unique styling and flexible interior. However, low gas mileage (especially considering the PT's compact size) is a very common owner issue.

Right now, the 2006 PT Cruiser is relatively cheap and many have very low miles (under 100k). Typically, they need a new timing belt around 90k miles, so if you find one that has a new timing belt, it’s a really good value. These cars have lots of room and versatility. If you can live without all the electronic gadgetry found a newer cars, this can give you good transportation at a low cost per mile. Aug 24, 2022

I will need to take it to a mechanic to have the fan belt checked it is making a squeaking noise when I start the vehicle. Also there is no indication as to when the last oil change happened. There is also a troubling gurgling noise when you shut the engine off that comes from AC. Other than that is just what I expected for a vehicle that is 16 years old. Since I have owned six of the same vehicle and currently own two PT Cruisers I knew what to look for.May 02, 2022

The Personal Transportation Cruiser has a lot of great things going for it. One of the new retro cars like the beetle, mini, and HR it is easy to find in the parking lot. It is large enough to haul a washer or dryer. I have enjoyed it. It is 10 years old and has 125K on it. It runs well, but the chassis is falling apart. And the AC goes out too much.May 02, 2015

At 6'2" with a medium build, I felt physically comfortable driving this car for the duration of my ownership.
I always shopped between Chrysler and Firestone for the cost of maintenance and repairs, mostly focusing on the quality of the warranties for parts and service, so cost of ownership was about what I expected it to be, considering any car these days is a depreciating investment in precious metal.
As far as the safety features, the only feature that bothered my sense of safety is the wide rear posts which interfered with having a wider range of vision from the inside rear view mirror.
Considering individual driving habits are exactly that...individual...I experienced no difficulties maintaining steering and braking control when the metropolitan rush hour traffic tossed its best and worst at me. Again, I recommend this car for a first-time teen driver since the acceleration is tame and curbs the desire to speed.Mar 16, 2015

This car feels like a mix of different types of vehicles. It's fairly compact, drives like a hatchback sedan, and feels a bit more roomy like an SUV. For me this is a nice balance. The surprising good cargo capacity and interior space combined with its compact body is to me its greatest strength. Overall I feel it's pleasant vehicle to drive as it handles more like a sedan than a small SUV, and can even be fun to drive around despite having a slower engine.
It has its drawbacks however. The engine is pretty mediocre all-around. Its 4-cylinder engine feels a bit slow compared to most cars out on the road, and while it gets okay gas mileage, it isn't anything spectacular to counterbalance the engine's power.
There is no traction-control or anti-lock break system, which some people like, but this along with its medium weight makes it a bit more of a challenge when it comes to handling snow and ice, although the front-wheel drive makes better then solely rear-wheel powered vehicles. If you are used to driving without traction control or anti-lock breaks in snowy conditions you probably will be just fine, but if you aren't you'll want to take some time to get used to it.
The PT also drives low to the ground, which contributes to it feeling more like a sedan, but it also can result in bottoming out on taking some steeper bumps and entrances driveways. Having all the components compactly put in the front of the car can result in possibly costly damage if you aren't careful and are moving quick and bottom out. The PT is a road car, and on good street conditions it handles great, but in any less ideal situation you'll want to be a bit careful.
I'm not sure if it's my specific car or not, but I've had a few very costly repairs. I had two $1K+ sets of repairs within a year apart not too long after getting this car (used).
The exterior design is highly subjective. I personally like the style, but I know there are those who don't. The only criticism I'd have is that I feel that it was easier to check my blind spots with some of my previous cars, but on the other hand the back window and rear-view mirror is very spacious and much better than many of smaller windows many of the compact cars out there seem to have.Feb 19, 2014

I loved this car so much. Never left me stranded or had any technical or mechanical difficulties. As long as you keep up with the scheduled maintenance it should last for a very long time. It is a nice size to race around town in, go on road trips, beach cruise, or to haul items around in. Trustworthy car and has kept me safe since 2006. Although this car is ugly on the outside, it makes up for it's lack of beauty on the inside.
Sporting a 4 cylinder engine, this car will get the job done. In our 3 years of ownership, there has never been anything wrong with it. It still drives like the day we bought it!
Gas mileage ranges anywhere from 19mpg to 27mpg! The indash computer tells you how many miles you're averaging to the gallon, and how many miles left you have on that tank!

It has good lines and is fun to drive. I enjoy the overall appearance of my PT Cruiser Convertible versus the hard top as it does not have an "egg" appearance to it. This little car is simply amazing to drive. I'm still amazed and pleased with the pickup that the 2.4L Turbo Engine has versus its non-turbo counterparts. I have no problems merging into traffic or keeping up/passing on our hectic Kansas City area highways. I was one of those that was actually suckered into liking the design and have test driven 3 of these cars. However, they have no suspension, the road noise is intolerable, they are not safe, and the power in the engine is pathetic. 06 PT Cruiser wont start or turn over
Okay, so I have an 06 PT Cruiser. It started giving problems a few months ago, it wouldnt turn over or crank so we got the codes read and it came up as the Transmission Control Module. We changed that and the Ignition Switch. It still will not turn over or crank. already has a new battery, but we changed the terminals anyway. still wont turn over or crank but the dash lights and everything will come on so there is power but no starting. HELP. because we have tried absolutely everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
