A crossover SUV that takes favorite features from a wide range of vehicles (cars, minivans, SUVs), the 2005 Buick Rendezvous offers the versatility of two or three rows of seats and lots of storage room without the feel of driving a big SUV.
The 2005 Rendezvous comes in three trims -- base CX, CXL, and Ultra. New for 2005, the Ultra is now available in front-wheel drive, meaning all trims come with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The CX and CXL are powered by a 3.4-liter, 185-hp V6, while the Ultra features a 3.6-liter, 245-hp V6. In the 2005 Rendezvous, this engine is now an option for the CXL. Other additions this year include new standard 17-inch tires, wood trim in the CXL, an optional sunroof for the CX, and a passenger sensing airbag deploying system in the front seat. ABS brakes, OnStar, front side airbags are standard on all but the 2WD CX.
The 2005 Rendezvous has two rows of seats, but the CXL and above models can add an optional third row, which also folds when you need more trunk space. This third row, though, is very cramped and only suitable for small children or pets. The second row bench in all models slides back and forth to adjust for legroom or extra cargo room. As you move up the line, you get a lot of standard luxury items and safety features such as parking assist and the heads-up display.
While it's not particularly speedy, the 2005 Rendezvous is fun to drive and handles easily, more like a car than an SUV. It has unique looks that appeal to most owners, who also love the long list of standard features. Large mirrors offer good visibility. Downsides include lousy gas mileage, the cramped third row, and a rear tailgate that's hard to pull down.

Nice family crossover vehicle however maintenance costs are high. Engine runs smooth and plenty of horsepower. Interior and exterior colors are well done. Plenty of room and handles
nicely. Be prepared to spend more than average repair costs as this vehicle needed many replacement parts and repairs thus far.Jul 21, 2014

This AWD Buick Rendezvous Ultra is pretty quick for the size with the large 3.6 ltr. engine.
Design problems are apparent with the Front Hubs needing replacement around every
50,000 mi. Tailgate leather strap breaks easily. Back brakes needed replaced every 50,000 mi. Fuel Pump and Instrument cluster replaced as well as transmission rebuilt. Also needed an electric control module (ECM). Water leaks from AC or drainage hoses into floor driver and passenger area.
If you have the $ to maintain this vehicle and you really like how it handles, the interior room and looks, it would be a good fit for you.Oct 20, 2013

I really enjoyed traveling in this car.The ride is smooth and low noise. I drove 400 miles once a month and only used a tank of gas. Nice family car or good for commuting to work especially on the highway. Has 129k no problem with motor. Trans started to hesitate going into first gear I haf transmission flushed out and put a new filter in it haven't had any problems since.Mar 31, 2013

I liked the quick acceleration and how the car handled. It was fun to drive. Lots of good visibility. I especially like that you rode high, but didn't need running boards to get in the car. I'm always twisting my back or bumping my head trying to negotiate running boards. The seats could fold up for lots of cargo area or just take the out all together if you need more room for whatever reason. The cup-holders are logically placed in the front and back of the vehicle and lots of little storage compartments everywhere. No wasted space anywhere. The performance of this large SUV is adequate. The braking is great and it handles well for a SUV. The build quality is good, there are no rattles, etc. The styling is luxurious and sleek (for a SUV that is). The major downfall is the gas mileage. The transmission in these vehicles are TERRIBLE and when they go they make the vehicle suck gas!!! Sure it is fun to drive but the transmission is horrible and it usually goes before the vehicle has 150,000 miles on it. i have the CX Plus model, which includes backup assist & onstar.
we have enjoyed the ride but are experiencing a loud roar from the driver's front wheel. This vehicle has about 56000 miles on it, so GM has denied providing assistance. I realized bumper/bumper is expired but other model years have recalls for this same problem, dealer wants $500 per wheel to correct problem - what a rip !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!May 27, 2008

wiring for crankshaft position sensor
I have a 2005 Buick Rendezvous CX 3.4 l v6. The plug was pulled off of the crankshaft position sensor and the wires themselves came out. I do not know which wires go where. One is orange/white, one is black, and one is brown and white. I don't want to fry my computer so I need to get this right.

Head gasket issue
My 2005 Buick Rendezvous was just diagnosed with a head gasket or head going out. Drove about 15 miles when “warning, engine overheated” light came on. No white smoke or anything. Been driving it short distances to keep fluids moving and no issues (driving less than 10 miles). Can’t afford the 2,600 to 4,000 repair that was quoted. Want to try an engine gasket sealant but was told that these sealants could cause worse damage over time. Any thoughts?

i think a class action lawsuit should be started on the Buick Rendezvous (specifically 2004 and 2005 models) with all the transmission problems that are clearly documented on most of the models
my 2005 model buick rendezvous is about to experience a transmission rebuild --- the tranbsmission has been replaced twice. befor it even reached 80,000 miles. GM should be ashamed for jerking us around!!
