Because Honda made significant changes the previous year, the 2003 Honda CR-V does not add anything new. The reputation of this SUV for dependability has garnered significant customer loyalty. Since affordability is one of the attractive features, why spend money making unnecessary changes?
There is plenty of comfort in terms of leg and headroom, the independent rear seats can recline to provide room to stretch, and the seat itself is pretty comfortable. The frame is strengthened in design for better crash test results, and safety belts for all five passengers have a special locking design for greater effectiveness.
The more powerful 2.4-liter, 160-hp engine provides the extra power drivers enjoy, and steering, overall control, and cornering aspects of driving are still present in this vehicle. Of course we still have the side-opening tailgate with the spare tire mounted on the outside that allows for exceptional storage space.
Though prices in used cars often vary, it is safe to say that a price range between $12,000 and $16,750 is pretty accurate.

I really like the CRV I bought; the price was right--and no I didnt haggle with the salesman--the vehicle is like in mint condition. The only gripes I have is that I got only one key for the car and the vehicle is packed with all kinds of electronic gadgets Im still trying to figure out. All in all, Im pretty satisfied with the vehicle I purchased.May 17, 2020

I was very happy with the selection. This was a manual Honda CRV. The price was fair for a car in such nice condition. My family and I had many quality cars and trucks to look at on their lot. We decided on an automatic SUV, so our teenagers could easily drive.

There is a reason that the Honda CR-V is so popular. My 2003 has been an amazing vehicle for me and my family. It has a fantastic balance of power and fuel economy from a four cylinder engine. The handling is amazing on any road condition. The interior has withstood a lot of use. By far this has been the best car I have owned. I do admit that the road noise is more than the average car, but a good set of tires will mitigate most of the noise irritation.Apr 23, 2015

Really, I just wish it had more power. It's hard to accelerate off the line in a car that would like to stroll. The other problem I have is that if you don't manually turn off the head lights the battery will be dead in a few hours. I have never had that problem with other vehicles I have owned. Especially as most cars today turn off on their own........ Just saying.Nov 23, 2014

I bought this little car a few years ago for my wife. It does awesome in the snow, rain, and ice. It had 45000 miles on it. We did the 60k service and it was in expensive. Awesome for dogs and kids. Oh and a picnic table in the floor!Oct 17, 2014

Our CR-V is 11 years old with 134,000 miles and has been fairly reliable but has had two major repairs. The alternator went out a few years ago and the starter this year. However, the body has held up well, and still no rattles after 11 years. The CR-V only came in two trims, the FWD LE and AWD EX. Plastic storage bin lock broke long ago and the cheap inside door fabrics have had to be glued on. Gas mileage not as good as expected, even with good tires, regular oil changes, and air filter changes. Burns more oil than my 99 Dodge Caravan. Slightly disappointed with Honda quality. This vehicle has been given to my son for college use.
UPDATE: Since this was given to my son, we have had to replace the rear drivers side brake caliper - twice. Then weve had to replace the starter - also twice (2015 and 2016). One of the oxygen sensors needs to be replaced as well and can only be done at the dealer. Because of this, the gas mileage is poor.
Cant wait to trade this in one day. Very disappointed in Honda. We had a 2006 Honda Civic that also gave us nothing but problems until the engine block cracked from overheating. Cant wait to get rid of this one.May 02, 2014

This is a great family SUV. Very reliable, comfortable ride and safe. It has tons of rear storage with a built in picnic table for that spontanious picnic. It also has a cover that hides the rear storage. This has been a great family vehicle for the last 5 years for us. Jan 10, 2014

Terrible engineering concerning the throttle cable and cruise control being attached to the trottle body assembly. Front end collission results in bent parts and having to replace trottle body module ($$$) because trottle body made from cast metal and minimum support for bracket required for throttle and cruise control cabling. Unnecessary if a bracket were designed rather than molded mount to cast metal in a vunerable area at the front of the engine compartment.Jan 11, 2013

The 2003 Honda CRV is a solid car. Much like Honda itself, it is not flashy, but dependable with quality throughout. There is plenty of cargo area, seats 5 comfortably, and the EX version gives me all-wheel drive and a really nice power moon-roof. CRV sets the standard in the small SUV/Crossover market.Oct 08, 2012

Dependable, reliable, safe.
Excellent braking and handling in the snow and ice.
Only one owner.
2003 Hond was never in an accident.
Versatile with plenty of space. Fold down rear seats accomodate bicycles, boxes and items from the Home Depot.

Superb at most things it was designed for. Not a true off roader, but really handles the snow well. Loads of room, comfortable and quiet, Fairly economical and very smooth. Great build quality, 100% reliable and superb auto gearbox.Lots of toys and looks good. Will buy another one when this one is tired out. Great valueJan 03, 2011

It holds what I need it to, has lots of cargo space, it seats 5 comfortably, but I hate the way it looks, especially the exterior and interior color, handling and acceleration suck, you feel like you're going to tip over a lot & its not luxurious enough for my taste.Sep 12, 2009

Great, small SUV with a surprisingly large cargo area. Big enough for our large dogs. Love the rear "stadium" seating--lets the rear passengers still see what's ahead.
Maintenance is a breeze--we use the dealer, which I never do, but they are cheap...who knew?
Engine with V-TEC, one word-Awesome!Jun 17, 2009
In general this car is excelent, isn't so expensive and it doesn't spend too much gas, it's fast and the handling is awesome.
I bought it used, and i never had to spend money on manteinance, just the necesary changes (oil, air filter and the common things)
The principal advantage of this vehicle is that it moves like a sport vehicle at the same time that works like a SUVAug 07, 2008

If you can fit your stuff in a CR-V, you will have room in your apartment at college. This was my late mothers car. It hasn't let me down. Nicer than a lot of banger that are found around campus. Smooth ride at high speeds. Great for long trips.Feb 11, 2008

I got this car to help me transport my dogs around. I have to admit to falling in love with it. I am now thinking about trading it in for a diesel but the same model as I prefer this one to the new 2007 model. It drives like a dream. Is easy to handle. The interior is huge. The back of the car has so much room that even a very tall person will sit in comfort with loads of leg room. The controls are very user friendly. Jan 05, 2008

I've been driving the CRV for 4 years and love it. For the $, it's a great vehicle.
Update: now been driving the car for over 10 years and it has 175,000 miles. Have still ONLY done maintenance work on it. We did have a little rust around the gas cap that was repaired. Dec 28, 2007
Love the car - bought Dec. 06. But gas mileage dreadful - under 20 mpg. Improved after air filter changed, but back to low miles again. Is this standard? I have about 25M miles on the car. My 99 Odyssey was better than the CRV on mpg.
2003 CRV uses lots of oil but no smoke or on driveway. Parents took it in repeatedly for the engine light but never a fix, light always stayed on. Car has low annual mileage, now at 50,000. Local mechanic wants to but in ignition coils, redo a fuel induction service and replace the valve cover gasket. Sounds excessive for an oil leak.
