The GMC Savana passenger van got a noticeable makeover in 2003. Major changes include available all-wheel drive, a re-designed exterior, and a stronger stable of powertrains that includes a 4.3 L, 200 hp V6, 5.3 L, 285 hp V8, and a 6.0 L, 300 hp V8. The '03 Savana comes in 6 trims: the G1500, G1500 AWD, G2500, G2500 Extended, G3500, and G3500 Extended. 2003 marks the last model year in which you'll find the G2500 Extended trim.
Gas mileage comes out to around 14 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway. The van also gives you plenty of seating capacity with room for 8, 12, or 15 depending on the trim. Max towing capacity ranges from 6200 lbs. to 9900 lbs. Regular trims have around 267 cubic feet of cargo capacity while extended trims give you 317 cubic feet. All trims come with standard ABS brakes and air conditioning. Options include cd player, power windows, power door locks, and power seats.
Overall, drivers like the '03 Savana's engine choices, seating capacity, and the new all-wheel drive. However, the van still has a ways to go when it comes to handling and interior materials. Regardless, the makeover did the Savana a lot of good and reflects what the van will look like heading into the second decade of the millenium.

For the most part, this large 12 passenger van has been very good to us. I purchased an extra set of rims for the snow tires. If you ever intend to drive in the snow, you really need snow tires or you'll likely have a very hard time moving at all. But with the snow tires all around, it's a joy to drive in the snow. The driver's seat has become quite uncomfortable after 127K miles. One of the seat belt fasteners broke in the front rear seat. It's a bit loud in the cabin going at highway speeds making it difficult to hear the radio. But I'd buy this van again since it has been very dependable and reliable and the engine, transmission, and brakes have been excellent.Jan 14, 2014

Has some set backs with the A/C lines underneath the vehicle that run back to the rear A/C. The lines developed leaks and had to be replaced by the dealer. $$$$ After three times of that trouble, it has been trouble free since. Strong transmission and brakes. Lots of power from the 6.0L V8. Very dependable. Don't drive this in the snow UNLESS you have all four snow tires. Then it's a joy to drive in the snow.Jan 14, 2014
