Its a good suv but i have had to do ALOT of work to it in the past few months! But
it is 10 yrs old so really can't complain to much! Being a V8 its not bad on gas

Nice SUV. Very comparable to a Ford Explorer. Came fully loaded. Performance is great with a nice V8 engine.
Pros: Good Engine, Nice interior.
Cons: Bad Gas Mileage, Drivetrain problems. (Watch that transfer case)
Overall, I love to drive it. Good Stereo system, lots of extras for the price. A decent buy.Aug 31, 2008

Freeze plug went and no heat
Is the engine in my mountaineer shot? While I was driving down the road the first thing I noticed was that the inside of the car was not heating up. It was blowing air but it was cold. Then the temperature of the engine started to rise quickly and I heard a pop then the engine started smoking. The freeze plug came out and all the antifreeze was gone. My husband put a new freeze plug in and replaced the antifreeze just today. The oil still looks normal. Just wondering if the engine is going in it?
