The Volkswagen Cabrio received a few minor upgrades for the 2000 model year, including an updated alarm system, an optional dealer-installed CD player, and an indicator light on the dash that signaled when brakes needed to be replaced. A non-smoking package was also available.
Other than that, little else changed from the previous year. Two trim packages were available -- the base-model GL and the more feature-laden GLS. Both were powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, 115-hp engine linked to a five-speed manual overdrive transmission. A four-speed automatic overdrive transmission was available as an option.
The GL's list of standard features included air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, power door locks, front and side airbags, daytime running lights, an anti-theft alarm system, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo system. The GLS added power windows and leather seats, among other features. Both versions came with a multi-layer cloth convertible top with a glass rear window, though the GLS came with a power top while the GL's was manually operated.
While some drivers were impressed with the Cabrio's handling, gas economy, quality, and "fun" factor, others noted that the vehicle was frequently in the shop. As one driver noted, "Too many things go bad too quickly."

These little cars a great, good gas mileage, excellent handling, super easy to maintain. WRX guys always honk and say nice car. Every gentleman has a story about the good looking girl in high school that drove one of these little convertible’s.Jul 25, 2022

Haven't driven yet I just bought it and am currently swapping from auto to manuel transfer, full tune up seals gaskets etc so given a week or two ill b in it. Thank fully I found this site now I have a place to go for questions thanxJul 06, 2012

Efficient up to 36 MPG on hills and valleys. Good over many years. Small and reliable. Shifting in Manual drive was smooth and fun. Convertible top made this a great summer car. Only reason to move on is anticipation of a breakdown and the need for more cabin and trunk space.Jan 06, 2011

I got it for $900.00 because of a few torn areas on the leather seats(no biggie) a few areas where the seems are coming loose on the convertible. The big problem is the keyless/kill switch alarm, I thinks its factory, where it ewont let the car start and sometimes it does. The old owners(a close friend) decided it was too much of a headache for his teen daughter so he sold it to me!
Now I need to put alittle $$$ to it, and I will be on my way. Oh, and it has a great radio system that i saw him buy for just over $500.00....well worth me buying it for 900!
Any suggestions with fixing this help would be very greatful as I am now a VW owner.....Drive safe!Oct 23, 2010

Great all around - 115 hp feels like there is more, and fun to drive ( all smiles) - 10 years old and still going strong - a bit of rust creeping in - Clear coat is giving up the ghost which just means time for a new coat of paint. This will be around for awhile. Jun 01, 2010

It is a great car for anyone. Even though it was said that if a guy drives it, it is a sign of
him 'coming out of the closet', it is just one of the many cars that VW done right. It is fun
and practical car. It is a roomy convertible (sits 5 people) with a reasonable size trunk
space. The car comes with a stylish cross bar and six airbags (front and side) for safety
(yes, it's a 2000 model which was way ahead of it's time), blue night light on dash board
for driving comfort AND automatic window roll up and down with the car key. (Again, way
ahead of its time in 2000 and Honda has to copy that feature two years later...) Small car
like that drive great on highway. It is just the right size to go around the city and free your
driving spirit in the country side. It is solid in both performance and build. My car has
over 120,000 miles and still drive great. I was very disappointed when VW discontinued it
in 2003 in order for the convertible Beetle to launch. If you want one, you have to

Vw cabrio fuel pump replacement and location
Car shop said i need to replace the fuel pump on my 2000 vw cabrio. They wanna charhe over 1000$. The part is only 70$. I wanna replace it myself and not pay 1000$ which is absurd. Anyone tell me where its located and things i need to be aware of or need for the job?
