It's actually a fun car to drive and I personally think that it's quite great when going round a corner. As it's quite an old car, the automatic gear shifts a bit slow but once it reaches the top gear, it's like a breath of fresh air. :) Appearance wise, I think that it still looks good amongst other good lookin' 4WDs & SUVs on the roads. The fuel consumption is pretty high, especially when driving through busy roads & speeding on highways.Jun 25, 2010

on the road it handles like the q e 2 in a force 10 in the Atlantic but as you get off the black stuff and slow things down in the boggy soggy mud ridden country we live in the good old SUZUKI comes into its own with a poky 2.0 desile turbo intercooler the little truck comes into its own and with the added bonus of never ending fun as standerd i think suzis are the best for the mud o yea you can play round with them cheap and easy chip them to nearly 200bhp with neary 400 tourqe not bad also bigger turbos and intercoolers lift kits and such lkike youl be eatin landy all day on and off roadAug 22, 2009

I had a 1997 2 door soft top, pretty good car, GREAT off road, would be fun to watch the big guys struggle to fit in tight places and sink in the mud while i would just fly past, the only issues were the seams in the roof were coming loose a bit and highway performance, not great at 100km/hr plus. revs way to high and fuel consumption goes up, better on roads that are 80km/hr. Not the best handler at speed either, but htat's not what it was built for. very fun car otherwise, comfortable and good on fuel, for it's time it was a great little car. only repairs were new clutch and fuel pump which did nearly kill me as it cut out as i was crossing a very busy road. Well u got to love the making of this car (its 1997 model). for a 4WD car it accelerates very good and delivers its 136 hp from its roaring V6 engine to match ur demands on or off-road since it is lightweight; supported by a good gearbox (although mine has probs with the clutch but still works and delivers the output needed for ur pleasure). Brakes nicely and reliable in emergency braking. Some say the handling is bad but from my expirience; it is good and easy of course not as an evolution or a 2009 model but it keeps its balance neatly even in hard curves. A very good maneouvering car in off-road and makes life easy on desert even when gets stuck or in tough dunes it gets off real easy but when loaded it becomes very heavy and loses its prefrences since it is not a high car. Although its a 1997 making if u make a good maintainance course u would rely on it for a good long time, but needs a good mechanic to adjust and maintain it good. It is not the "very good looking" car, an ordinary shape but comfortable (even for tall guys to sit in) from the inside. It has unfortunately a small trunk with a limited space as it is a compact car so it would be crowded for travelling a long road with 4 persons and their gears inside the car. The car makes a good feul consumption (430 km approx. in town with AC always on) for a 2.0L V6 engine. Oil change is every 10,000 km at least here in Egypt. The car is very fun to drive I always choose it over our Lancer 2006 sport edition because it really thrills anyone sitting in its driver seat, it will deliver u anything u want from it. I recomend this car but in auto transmission easy and reliable too. Vitara models who still have these features is oldies (like mine) and till 2002-2003 models but is is dedicated for evey usage style and safety wise.Nov 02, 2008

Ubrzava do 100 km/h za 11 sec,koÄ�enje skoro u mestu,ne nekih 15 metara...Upravljiva,ali nije za driftanja... -OdliÄ�na i jaka limarija,kvalitetna izrada,ali japanska elektronika koja 2 dana ne radi a 3 radi...Auto servisi nisu dovoljno opremljeni da popravljaju japanska vozila,nema rezervnih delova,neke sam čak iz Austrije i Svicarske naručivao...Skoro mi crkla servo pumpa i hvala Bogu,nema je ni u Svedskoj... I absolutely love my Suzuki! Before it I owned the older version of it (1990 Geo Tracker) and it was such a rock solid vehicle that I bought this one- and I wasn't disappointed. It is great on gas (I get about 550K from a 45L tank- so approx 9L/100K) and super fun to drive in the summer with the roof off. It also performs very well in the winter in 4 wheel drive, and although I haven't done much off roading in this one, it has been capable of everything I have put it through so far. My only complaints about it are that it is slow on acceleration and the manual transmission is geared so low that when I'm doing 120K/H in fifth, the engine is screaming at 3500rpm. Aside from the fact that it's not built for lots of highway driving, its a great vehicle and I'd recommend it to anyone who asked!Aug 14, 2008

The Suzuki Vitara struggles to pull the skin off a rice pudding. Performance around the 'burbs is barely adequete. However......get it into the sand and it comes into its own. Suddenly it becomes a fun car, in the environment it was built for. It floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee....making light work of Landcruisers , Patrols and other such heavy vehicles. It's petrol, it's 1.6 L, it's ALL manual and I like it. It's the art of cars in its simplest form yet it's very reliable (maybe because of the simplicity). 30 mpg makes it a reasonable car (4x4) to sit in and drive in the city, and its accelaration is not bad at all compared to normal 'cars'. In fact I seldom lost a start-up at traffic lights. It's more like sitting in a proper car than in an un-comfy 4x4 like Freelander alike.Mar 22, 2008

The Vitara was a fun car to own it was a reasonable priced 4x4 off roader soft top not that it ever went off road much. I bought the car because I thought it would be a fun car to own and it was I owned this car at the same time I owned the BMW convertible and it was a nice alternative different pace of life car.
