I love my old Chevy and would buy another in an instant if they still made them like this one. She's approaching 2 decades of daily driving, kid transporting, commuting, towing, hauling, and upstate NY winters! Only thing I would change on it is making it a diesel! What a truck!Jan 01, 2014

Chevrolet trucks are well built trucks that are sometimes hard to get the right truck due to they sell as quick as they are put on a lot. Power is great for the 5.7 350 V-8 have always liked them.Apr 20, 2012

Really nice ride, fast, excellent handling. Love the exterior appearance and the looks inside are amazing. The gas mileage is really low, but that's what you get when you have a 5.7L v8 under the hood. And it's really fun to drive.Mar 30, 2012

Its nice truck it handles very good, it is comfortable ride. Performance wise it has a
very big 350 motor. It cost me almost 5000 thousand but its worth it. It is very fun
to have and drive. The truck is mostly being used for and towing and hauling
things around in and it does its job there, but it also will be used for plowing snow
and i am hoping it will do its job there.Dec 23, 2011

Great truck! Has excellent performance with a k&n air intake and straight pipes. excellent quaility with over 240 thousand miles on the original motor and tranny. Gets 15-17 miles to the gallon with 33" tires. Is a fun vehicle to drive with plenty of horse power from the vortec 350.Feb 18, 2011

performance, k&n air intake, edelbrock manifold, 3 in exhaust, larger all terain tirs, spot lights, bigger gearing in front and rear diffs and trans and transfer case, build like a tank will get you outta anything and still fast enough for the trackJan 21, 2011

good truck all around, for a truck it was pretty fast, the interior was perfect, the exterior had some wear and tear, but normal for a ten year old truck, fun to drive, gas mileage was not the best in the worldNov 26, 2009

with plenty of power to get off of a stop light in a hurry and pull anything that i will put behind it, this truck is amazing. however the suspension is not strong enough to handle off road abuse. with that being said i absolutly adore the way this truck looks, even though it is a little on the ragged side of like it still has plenty of eye catching attributes. gas mileage is great for a truck with a small block, though parts can get pricy. as far as the fun factor, it does have a small block 5.7 vortech, so that right there says it all. This is my grandfather's RCSB C1500 (i.e., 2WD) W/T with the L35 Vortec 4300. He bought it secondhand out of a lease when it was six months old and has owned it since.
Compared to my K1500 Cheyenne, it definitely feels more responsive, agile, and easy to drive due to it having a two foot shorter wheelbase. It feels like it gets up and goes just as easily as my truck, too, since it lacks the weight of 4WD system and extended cab. It's quite basic (power nothing, vinyl floor, but does have the 4L60-E automatic), which is the way a true work truck should be. All my truck has on it is cruise control and carpet, though! To my knowledge it's never had any major work done, which is no surprise. Hopefully we'll still have this truck around for years to come!Oct 08, 2009

Performance- Obviously, being a '90s pickup with 305 cubic inches that ignite 235 horses/280 ft.-lbs., this truck isn't a rocket by any means. But it does have it's get-up-and-go, but the transmission is a bit hesitant. Handling obviously sucks. Tons of body roll, understeer, steering feel is NOT there at all, not too agile, there's play in the wheel. But, hey, this is a pickup and these were the days where they weren't Cadillacs. The braking itself is good, but the pedal is unbelievably mushy and it's beyond numb.
Build Quality- Well, since I've beaten the hell out of this, I have broken stuff. Like two axles, distributor cap and rotor, power steering pump, and a wheel hub, but I also got it at 180K. Now it's at 200K. Original drivetrain including transmission. The interior obviously leaves much to be desired in terms of structure, fit-and-finish, ergonomics, and materials, but it's not absolute crap. It's held up very well. Other than those things I've mentioned, this baby's solid. Doors shut solidly, engine purrs, not many creaks and rattles, everything works normally--nothing's loose or seized.
Appearance- The interior, though bland, isn't bad looking. It's just kinda there to hold the HVAC system and radio and to cover all the wires and good stuff like that. The exterior, however, is gorgeous. In my opinion. This bodystyle of the Chevy pickup is one of the best-looking. Simple, yet classy. This truck looks like it was made to work.
Cost of Ownership- Gas mileage obviously isn't anything spectacular, but I do get better than the EPA figures. At least in the summer. I get 16.5 MPG or so combined, and in the winter, I get about 14 combined. It's rated at 12 City/17 Highway/14 combined. And I've gotten 21 MPG on the highway. But as I have broken a few parts from taking it offroading and getting the front end airborne, sending it through deep puddles at 30 MPH, and flooring it on occasion. But I'm willing to pay for it. The most expensive thing I've broken on here so far is probably the wheel hub (which wasn't really "broken", just the bearing was humming and ABS sensor was shot) which was about 120 bucks or so. I can't remember. But it had the ABS sensor in it which shoots up the price.
Fun Factor- Obviously you can't take it to a track, but it is a lot of fun to take out on the trails, make it do donuts in the street and rainy roads, powersliding in the snow and locking right into the snow when the 4X4 is on. It's also fun when you're at the beach and you can chill out in the back of it.Sep 02, 2009

Cant beat this truck. The Vortec 350 is absoluteley amazing, and the 4l60e is a damn good trans. And it always sounds good with twin super 40 flomasters and a K&N Cold Air Kit. And you can jump this thing and not knopck off the alighnment.. Best Truck EverJul 08, 2009

Performance - Can't complain. Not a ton of horse, but all the torque you can handle...
Build Qaulity - What more can a man ask for in his truck?
Appearance - C'mon, seriously...
Cost of Ownership - It's paid off... but boy does it eat.
Fun Factor - Driven in the right location I couldn't think of anything more fun.Jun 27, 2009

Not an Extended and the 2 wheel drive is not very good unless you have some very aggressive tires on it along with a couple hundred pounds of weight in the box, Its Great on gas and the 4.3 Liter V6 is a very Proven and reliable MotorMay 16, 2009

This truck was a real runner. I added 4.11 14 bolt axles, cold air intake with K&N filter, and open flow exaust (LOUD). The one thing that I had a problem with was rust on the driver rear cab corner. A great truck for a daily driver that you can have alot of fun in. Aug 07, 2008

Rides like a car, alright performance for the 5.7 Vortec, I really like the posi and the Vanworks trim package thats on it. They could of built it a bit better, bolt on the door hinges instead of gluing them on and could of had it higher off the ground. Jul 11, 2008

I have a 98 chevy pickup with a 350 vortec motor and a five speed manual transmission. This old gal has 219,995 miles on it and is still running strong the transmission was changed at almost 100,000 and the new transmission is starting to crap out on me but I cant complain because this one has lasted longer than the first one and the engine still runs like new the only thing I dont like about the 350 motor is the gas mileage on average i get about 18 to 20 depending on how hard i drive it. I would recommend this truck to anyone that wants a little get up and go in their truck. It is one of the most fun trucks I have ever drove Jun 30, 2008

i love my 98 chevy more than anything else. I bought it from a dealership i was working at and got a good price on it. It has the easiest steering, brakes redone when i got it, excellent throttle response, fast, and doesn't burn up oil. It's the most reliable truck i ever owned. Not once has it quit on me. It's always serviced properly because i love it.Jan 10, 2008

I've had this for a couple months after going through alot of vehicles. I must say that it's very fun to drive. The only complaint that I have is the gas mileage but that's to be expected with a full size V8 powered vehicle. Jan 02, 2008

I drove this vehicle when I was looking for my now 2002 Silverado. It was a nice truck, but it had some problems. I liked some of the interior features, but you could smell the exhaust when you turned on the air conditioner. It had adequate power for a large truck, but it was nothing special.Jul 30, 2007
I have a 98' silverado ext. cab Z71, I've got a Jasper 350 Vortec in it and true dual flowmaster 40 series exhaust with magnaflow tips... any suggestions on my next addition? cold air intake? chip? tires? lift? I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket and I want this thing to look good.
Ok I wrecked my 1998 Silverado and now I need to put my engine into another body. Now my question is can I put my engine and trans into a 1999 body, regardless of what engine was previously in it. I will be taking the complete engine; starter, alternator, etc. So will this work for me.
I have a 98 Chevy k1500 with the 5.7 350 vortec. I have tried everything to get the truck to start. Battery is good. It has good compression, fuel, and fire to the engine. Checked all these last night. Replaced crankshaft sensor and ignition coil truck still wouldn't start. Starter is good and fuel pump does engage. Did a tune up on it last year. New spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button. Changed the fuel filter last week. I am completely stumped on what to try next.
