Won't stop backfiring when i move the car and changing gears
My Capri is unnaturally, nonorderly backfiring whenever i move the car or change gears. Does someone know how to fix this problem?

It was, and still is a High Fun Factor ride.
Italian design, Mazda reliability with optional Turbo, from Ford of Australia at affordable prices. I had a 1991 for a couple years and really enjoyed driving it here in Florida. Recently I bought, what some say, was the best and final version 1994 Capri. Looks great and runs smooth. Non-Turbos aren’t fast but tend to be reliable and the Turbos are quick and sport tuned. They’re getting harder to find, prices have been increasing in past few years - but you can still find some in good shape, “everything works” for few thousand $$$ Jul 24, 2024

I remember someone I knew had this model back in the mid 90s. It was a soft top. I always liked the style even though it was so much different from the looks of the earlier Capri. I also Liked the hardtop on this one. I think it was a good deal and the mileage was on the lower end too. Aug 25, 2021

I see why they lasted only 3 years. I have 3 of them. Hard to find parts. I bought about $1000. worth of parts over the years on e bay and I should be able to keep them running. You need to be a car nut to own one.Feb 11, 2012

of the XR2 left in World !! I once had it up to
130mph but that on a straight on US80 in Wyoning.

I inherited my Capri from my father who purchased it new in 1992. He left it to me with only 11,500 miles on it. I enjoy driving this little zipper though I must remind everyone it is NOT a sports car. It's a sporty car. IF the top worked correctly, I'd drive it as a convertible more often. Lots of turbo lag. Fun to surprise the occasional Dodge Magnum, etc. I plan to upgrade the tires, get a hardtop and new front/rear bumpers. A keeper at 34 mpg hiway!Oct 28, 2010

nice car. fun to drive. reminded me of like a little tonka truck. more power than you'd expect from a little tiny two seater convertable. not much for speed though. decent gas milage, expensive to maintain though, parts cost to much.Sep 04, 2009

Who knew so much fun could be so inexpensive? 30 mpg even while misbehaving. 4 wheel disc brakes way ahead of their time. for get the zero to sixty times. the real world highway times are much more impressive, like 55- 95 in 2.4 secs.. ohhh yeah!! now thats passing expediancy.May 31, 2009

it is a really nice car when its fixed up.. it looks good if u paint the black trim piece same as the car and u can buy a bubble top to go over the back seat.. an since there is no back seat it makes a excellent places to put some subs.. u can get some side skirts and bumper prices...u can get a new rear end.. it looks kind of like a corvettes with four round tail lights on it...really nice car fun to drive.Jan 20, 2009

My car won't stop backfiring. Whenever I move the car and or when I'm changing gears it backfires immensely and doesn't backfire in order, its all over the place. Does someone know how to fix this issue.

New xr2 owner on the block!
Just bought an xr2 turbo with 100,000 miles on it. Never been in an accident, good condition considering its age, a fun project car for me. Just got it yesterday, was driving it home, and noticed that in a certain rpm range, it bogs/ misfires? loses power temporarily. It does this sometimes, but not all of the time. The guy I got it from says he tuned it recently. I think he only put new plugs in it. Any ideas?
