The 1990 Toyota Corolla saw a few small changes. The All-Trac sedan, introduced only the year before, was discontinued. The base engine got more power, as did that of the GT-S. Toyota also introduced an entry-level sedan, which had smaller tires and only came as a manual or three-speed automatic.
The 1990 Toyota Corolla came in many body styles with several trim levels. The sedan came as a base, DX or LE. The wagon was available as a DX or SR5. The coupe came as a SR5 or GT-S. All Corollas came equipped with a DOHC, 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine. The sedans, wagons, and SR5 coupe had a 102-horsepower engine and the GT-S had a signifigant upgrade to 130 horsepower. Fuel economy is about 22 to 33 mpg, depending on the engine.
Drivers describe their 1990 Corollas as "no nonsense" and admit that while they aren't flashy, they are reliable and perform well in all kinds of conditions. Some drivers have had problems with rust, and others complain about the bare-bones options packages that Toyota had offered with this car. It does not come with a lot of frills.

Adequate engine performance for a people/stuff mover.
Mileage: under 7L/100km on long trips; 8-8.5L/100km around town.
Fairly easy to maintain, parts are usually easy to find.
Owned 1998-2009, only replaced when tempted with an inexpensive rust free Camry wagon.Sep 19, 2009

Well technically they're good cars if they are taken care of, but mine wasn't. It was ugly when I got it. That year Corolla is ugly regardless. It had descent speed my brake master cylinder went bad on it. The handling was okay but not the greatest. I never really had to put much money into it parts wise, I ended up selling it before it got to that because the master cylinder was already bad and it had a minor oil leak. I got 25 - 30 miles to the gallon, maintenance wasn't too too bad. Fun to drive? ehh..not really. Aug 11, 2009

I learned to drive stick on this car and it has 260,000 KM on it and is still on its original trans/clutch. I couldn't ask for a better learning car. I have not have had to replace anything based on faultyness. Just regular wear and tear things. The only thing is all of the interior dash lights have burnt out.
I find that everything about this car is perfect. The gas milage is awesome, it is a very solid car with a very very strong engine. Acceleration is good in the manual transmission and the handling is not very tight but good for all around driving.
I find that you don't see this style corolla much and I get a few people who ask about it. The style of this car for a '90 is quite sporty. The only thing i would change is the long trunk it has for a coupe. Aug 12, 2008

Manual Tranny, Sports Coupe, 16 valve, twin cams, fun to race, body is very lightweight because of size of car. If slightly lowered, center of gravity is below ground for increased stability around tight turns. Stops well, accelerates better. If you can find one which has been babied and properly maintained but has pref. a newer/rebuilt engine in it or one from japan, this is a Great! car. Feels faster than it is due to how close you ride to the road. The seats are semi-bucketted seats, with 3 controls to adjust the seat (although they are manual, it is very comfortable). SUPER SUPER FUN FOR CANYON DRIVING/RACING, STREET RACING FOR FUN, ETC. Accelerates great, stops (especially with slotted cross drilled rotors) practically on a dime (almost). All around fun car, if body, engine and maintenance are all excellent (due to the age of the car). Nov 19, 2007

Jumps starts right away. Somebody told me something about the radio on this car being a problem, so the fuse for it was removed. Didn't fix the problem. Any help would be apprictated. Thanks Bruce
