1987 Holden Commodore Reviews, Pricing & Specs

The VL is considered by some bogan enthusausts as one of the most reliable commodores out there(maybe because it was the only model to have a nissan skyline engine in it). It runs on beer, pies, a heavy dose of AC/DC and Mettalica. Everything that was made by Nissan (the engine) was fantastic, everything else that was made by holden (the rest of the car) was rubbish. The electronics didnt work, the odometer said 99999999 which it really didnt do, at times the speedometer didnt work so you had to guess what speed you were doing. The fan only worked on the rare random times(just when you didnt need it) and just by slightly pushing on the accelerator you could hear a few more endangered species dying from your carbon emissions!Mar 28, 2008

Runs on Nissan RB30 engine, which are very reliable and dont use oil or water much at all. The 3.0 litre delivers good power and can be fun to drive in the wet, with the rear wheel drive Borg Warner salisbury type powertrain. Widely used in Australia and New Zealand for circuit and drag racing, with some top pro street examples out there. The main picture is the winning vl commodore of Win Percy and Allan Grice from the famous Bathurst race in 1990.
