1986 Volkswagen Cabriolet Preview summaryImage

No significant changes to the Cabriolet in 1986. Two trims were available this year, the base and Wolfsburg convertibles.

A 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder, 90-hp engine and 5-speed manual transmission were standard on the front-wheel drive Cabriolet, and a 3-speed auto tran was available. The fun little convertible sat four and really only came with standard features. Purely for pleasure driving, it had only 6 cubic feet of trunk space.

Owners love the way this car drives and handles, but find repairs bothersome and find it difficult to locate a competent German car mechanic. Still, the fun of having a convertible seems to make drivers forget everything else.
