1983 Toyota Camry Reviews, Pricing & Specs
Write a review
Toyota introduced the Camry as an independent name to the U.S. market in 1982 for the 1983 model year. It was typical of Japanese imports of the time: small and boxy, but sturdy. It was available as a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback.
The 1983 Toyota Camry came with a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter, 92-hp engine and was available with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. Both the 1983 Toyota Camry sedan and hatchback were available in LE and DLX trim levels.
The 1983 Toyota Camry did face two recalls. One was because of malfunctioning cruise control, and one because of problems with the alternator. While the car was still a long way from becoming the best-seller it is today, drivers of the car report that they still see 1983 Toyota Camrys on the road occasionally, speaking to Toyota's commitment to reliability.
