1979 Chevrolet Corvette Reviews, Pricing & Specs
Write a review
The 1979 Chevrolet Corvette was the top-selling Corvette of all time, with 53,807 cars sold. It remained largely unchanged from the 1978 model, with the exception of the disappearance of the "25th Anniversary" markers from the '78s and the change in emblem. A new rear spoiler originally limited to the 1978 Pace Car Replica was available. The base engine was the 350-ci small block V8, rated at 195 horsepower. The L82 option bumped the horses up to 225.

This car has been taken care of so well. It has beautiful body lines, and distinctly the Corvette that alot of us grew up fascinated with, and dreamed about driving and owning. A classic choice for the Stingray enthusiast, definitely a head turner.Dec 05, 2022

My '79 L-82 4 speed rides OK, accelerates OK (but my family sedan Sonata 2.0 Turbo would probably take it), and is plausibly reliable for an old vehicle, but it does not appreciate in value, emits a lot of heat through the firewall from the motor, and requires a lot of TLC (things break).
With that said, I cannot imagine another car staring back at me from inside the garage; it’s just a really fine looking, cool, bad-ass garage embellishment.Mar 13, 2015

I like the look, I like the power under the hood, I like how good it feels when i get to tell people i own my own 79 corvette! I love catching people checking out the car and seeing the impressed looks i get when i say its mine lol. The only down fall is getting in an out. Currently the interior is out. I bought the car with the intentions of putting money in it slowly over the years with my son. My son is 3 i have plenty of time I dont need to sale. I priced high intentionally. Im just playing with the idea. If a 67 camaro comes along by by vette lol. I would much rather have a 67 camaro or firebird but I have a corvette so i cant complain. Was that enough letters for the review?

i Love its style, power, the connection it has with the road. I could go on for awhile so to sum it up Ill say Its flat out F- ing awesome! Looking out the window at such a bad az machine knowing its mine still blows me away. Oh and telling people i own a 79 corvette makes me smile. To bad I dont feel the same way about getting in an out of it.Mar 11, 2015

This was a nice car, I had a 76 just like it but that was a 4 speed. I would have liked it more if it was a 4 speed. After 35 years the rubber and plastic starts to degrade. Won't own another old catlike this. They are treat show cars but not as daily drivers. The technology is just out of date. I got a lot of great comments on it as it was in very good condition. Ended up taking a loss dollar wise but learned that I am not mechanical enough to own this old of a car.May 01, 2014

Runs and drive great, just want newer Vette with Z06 power. This is Corvette number 6 for me. Just love them and working on them making them as perfect as I can. Getting old, just want my last one a stick with lots of power.Sep 27, 2013

When I graduated High School in 1979 I saw this car new and swore someday I would Own it. Four years I got one and have never regretted it. Other than spinning a rod bearing racing a 74 Charger it has never let me down. It's a True Survivor CarJul 12, 2013

My dream car. Summer is too short in Buffalo to enjoy but still have at least 7 months of fun. Ever since high school in the 70’s, I have loved Corvettes. My favorite years are 1963-1969, followed by the 70’s and early 80’s. My favorite colors are red, black and admiral blue. I finally found this corvette at a reasonable price in July 2011, and have been enjoying my dream car. My son has also fallen in love with corvettes, so he will be passed this car.Aug 14, 2011

I absolutely love my car its a 1979 corvette l-82 dark green all original with the rare 4 speed transmission. i take the car out for a cruise about once a month and it is all of the parades in my hometown. its the most reliable vehicle i have out of six and there all 1995 and newer. but like i said its fun to drive, reliable, and its my baby.Jun 14, 2011

Love the look. Later C3 but has L82 option and 4-speed. I love the look with the Pace Car spoiler package. Rare factory order A/C delete, manual crank windows and close-ratio trans Vette. I'll never get rich from this car but I still love her!Apr 08, 2011

Great crusier and love the shark body and raw power and torque of the base 350. Just sold in Oct-2010 and will use funds to put towards newer retro Mustang GT Convertible hopefully after winter. Owner for 13 years but was time to move onOct 04, 2010

This car looks good and is fun to drive. I have done extensive work to restore this car and still needs interior trim work. It is still a Corvette, the only genuine American sports car. It will only go up in value.Jul 25, 2010

Altough built in the 70's. I can't seem to dislike the car in any way. It's not the fastest ,or coolest car out there, but it has great personality. I don't care that it had poor build quality out of the factory 30 years ago or had 225 hp out of a 350 engine. Every time I get into the car, no matter how many times I drive it. It still puts a smile on my face.Oct 14, 2009

I like the 4bbl because when those 4th barels open a noise comes out that would bring a tear to ur eye... Also it has a shift kit, so when you floor it the tires cherp. In result leaving two tire marks...Oct 13, 2009

This car is quite awesome, though the low geared V8 leaves something to be desired, its a nice drive and has the go when you need to. Black ext., black int., and chrome trim...very nice color scheme. I personally like how the speedometer can't keep up with the acceleration.Oct 04, 2008

If you want to show off in a car, this one will turn heads!!
It's fun, fast and always enjoyable to drive. There isn't much maintenance because the engine is simple and easy to work on. If you know someone who has one, ask to go for a ride. Just don't ask if you can drive it.Aug 09, 2008

I love this car! Technically it's my dad's car, but he said
I can drive it on dates. It's not the 'Vette in the photo,
but it looks pretty similar to it. We need to fix it up a
bit and make it run better. it gets about 10 to 15 miles

She is a SEXY car! Fast, beautiful, dangerouse and lets face it... squeaky! GM had some problems with this generation of corvette. They were building 50,000 a year out of a factory never intended to build more than 10,000 a year. So things were missed! Lots of loose trim and rattles and I don't think the clock worked since the day the car was built. But lets not forget what counts! She's fast. Really fast! And I'm going to make her FASTER! My corvete is the L-82 High preformance model! And she just happends to be the fastes north american car made that year! She runs flat 15 in the 1/4. But that just to start. With the ZZ383 and TKO600 going in to her (not to mention 195 series Firstone tires) I'm aiming to run to some solid 11s. This is my race car. She sucks gas and goes fast! And that's what counts! Great car. Handles well and great acceleration. I love
the fact that it can speed up quickly and hugs the road
so you can make those tight corners. Low cost of
ownership.Jul 09, 2008

For a mid seventies Corvette - it was a decent car. It had very little rattles or flaws. Black, L82, spoiler package, 1982 Colllector Edition wheels and 4.11 rear gears made it fairly quick, if a gas hog.Jul 07, 2008

Built in the mighty USofA then was 1 of 200 shipped to Canada then brought back where its goin to stay....with me forever. T-tops, L-82 V8...(well kinda lol), oyster interior. next were gettin headers and sidepipes, MSD ignition system, maybe a 4speed auto trans, redo the interior (same color), hopefully a functioning cowl hood, and PAINT and a lil body work.Jun 23, 2008

I just completed a full restoration on this car and did not re-build to be a show car or to keep stock, I built the 350 up to 400 plus HP. This car has a 4 speed and is really setup for 1/4 mile racing, but it is very street able if you can afford to drive much at 11 MPG ! just a toyAug 05, 2007

Bought this beauty back in 1992 with 30000 miles. This car has been fourteen years of nothing but alot of fun and joy. There is nothing like taking out those t-tops on a hot summer night and going for a cruise, great filling. I now have 43000 miles on ths car now and have had no problems what so ever to speak of. Great car . Can't wait till spring to pull it out of the garage. J G MurphyDec 14, 2006

Sorry, made a post earlier, but forgot the question. What price can you get for an average shape 79 Corvette with 21,000 miles on? Won it and not sure of old cars. Thanks
