How many times should I pump the gas pedal to start a car with a manual gas pump

I just replaced my manual gas pump. I was hitting the gas pedal about four times to start it. With the new manual gas pump , now I have to hit the gas pedal 8 to 9 times

I have a 1971 280SL, needs to be fixed up - where is the best place around Lexington, MA?

Does anyone know where I can pick up a valve cover for a 1971 MB 280S? Also if someone knows the part number for it, I would appreciate it. Thanks

I picked up a 1971 MB 280S, the car was purchased without a valve cover, also if anybody knows the part number for the cover, that will help too. Fun facts; uses an M130 engine, 2.8L, and I believe that only valve covers from a 280S (not 280SE or SEL) will be compatible however someone else may be able to confirm or debate if this is true. I have searched the web and only found one valve cover at an unreasonable price, any help is appreciated. -Websites, Venders, available covers etc. Thanks for reading. Please Help.

I have white smoke coming from the tail pipe, what are the recommended solutions?

White smoke from the tail pipe. Do I need to do valves and rings or are there other less involved repairs that can be made ie; change hoses, filters, etc.. The car has 133,000 miles and I have put in a new exhaust system. Saw on a T.V. show that there might be a crankcase filter which if cleaned could eliminate or decrease emission. I seek advice

1971 280sl. When the tank is full, there's a strong feul odor in the car originating from the plastic box in the trunk on the left. Please help.
