2019 Cadillac XTS Preview summaryImage

The Cadillac XTS has been around since 2013, receiving a substantial facelift in 2018 that brought it up to date with Cadillac’s latest styling. Fresh off of that change, it gets few notable updates for 2019.

As a full-size sedan, the XTS makes excellent use of its footprint. It has room for five adults, an impressive 40 inches of rear legroom, and an 18-cubic-foot trunk, which can be further expanded with the standard 60/40 split-folding rear seats.

The base XTS is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which makes 304 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque, driving either the front or all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. A less-sedate option available is the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine, making 410 hp and 369 lb-ft and coming with standard all-wheel drive (AWD). The brawnier engine also comes standard with paddle shifters and an upgraded suspension. Fuel-economy returns sit at 19 mpg city, 28 highway, and 22 combined for the 3.6-liter V6. With AWD, the XT5 gets 17, 26, and 20.

For 2019, the XTS continues to spread itself across five trims: Standard, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum, and V-Sport. The Standard grade comes generously equipped with LED head- and taillights, 19-inch wheels, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, 8-way power front seats, Apple CarPlay, a Bose premium 8-speaker audio system, 4G LTE hotspot capability, and dual USB ports.

Options include magnetic ride control, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, semi-aniline leather seating, 22-way adjustable front seats with massage, a 12.3-inch color LCD instrument panel, navigation, heated and cooled seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The V-Sport Platinum gets the performance engine, along with its own semi-sporty take on the luxury theme, with a unique grille, special wheels, and V-Sport themed interface graphics.

Standard safety features for the XTS include a reversing camera, reversing sensors, automatic braking, a following-distance indicator, a forward-collision alert, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and Teen Driver, which allows parents to set limits on and monitor their teenagers’ driving habits. The XTS achieved Good ratings in its Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests.

For those seeking a traditional American luxury sedan with an emphasis on comfort, look to the Cadillac XTS.
