Are Volkswagen Taos models reliable?

Owners and experts consistently point to the Taos’s roomy cabin, strong fuel economy, and practical everyday usefulness as its biggest strengths. The model also earns praise for its quality feel and comfortable driving experience, which helps it come across as a solid long-term companion for daily use.

• Owners rate the Volkswagen Taos between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk comes from earlier model-year drivetrain and reliability concerns, so a careful test drive and service-history review matter.

Key things to evaluate:

• Infotainment: wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an 8-inch touchscreen on SE and SEL trims.
• Fuel efficiency: 26.8 mpg over the entire route, coming up just short of the official EPA rating of 28 mpg in combined driving.

Which Volkswagen Taos trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Taos offers these trims:

• S: The entry trim brings the standard 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Car-Net connected services, standard Front Assist, a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, and the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic in FWD form.
• SE: This is the best-value trim because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, VW’s IQ.Drive collection of ADAS, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, Emergency Assist, and an active blind-spot monitoring system.
• SEL: This top trim adds the 10.25-inch digital display, native navigation, an eight-speaker Beats Audio premium sound system, 4Motion AWD, parking sensors with automatic braking, road-sign recognition, and the most upscale look and feel.

What Volkswagen Taos do most buyers choose?

The Volkswagen Taos years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

These higher-volume years tend to be the easiest places to shop because you get more inventory to compare, which can make it simpler to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also tend to attract more attention from shoppers, which helps explain why they remain the most popular used picks.

What is the Volkswagen Taos's resale value?

Prices are moving lower across every year shown, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more value for your money. The biggest drops are in the newer model years, while the older years show smaller declines. That pattern suggests you can find meaningful savings across the lineup without waiting for a specific year to soften further.

The 2023, 2024, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volkswagen Taos safe?

• 2023: 8/10
• 2022: 9/10
