| 2014 | $19,263 | $18,482 – $19,642 |
The Toyota Tacoma's current nationwide average price is $32,525, and its year-round low is $30,603.84. That puts the model in a fairly broad pricing band, with newer trucks commanding the highest averages and older ones opening up more affordable entry points.
Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Tacoma a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Tacoma earns a strong all-generations owner rating of 4.53/5 across every model year in the data.
The Toyota Tacoma has built a solid reputation for reliability and performance across its model years. Owners consistently praise its durability, off-road capabilities, and overall comfort. Many appreciate its strong resale value and rugged design, making it a favored option for both casual driving and work-related tasks.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2019 models among the highest across all years.
The main tradeoffs that come up most often are a cramped cabin, pricing that runs high for the segment, and older technology in some years. Even so, the Tacoma’s mix of toughness, capability, and lasting value keeps it appealing to used buyers.
31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Tacoma models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the Tacoma’s durability, strong resale value, and long-lasting performance as core strengths. Across the lineup, it has a reputation for being a dependable truck that holds up well over time.
- Owners rate the Toyota Tacoma between 4.2 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally tied more to the condition and maintenance history of a specific truck than to the nameplate itself, so a careful inspection and vehicle-history review still matter.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Tacoma?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.6% |

| 2017 | 60.5% |
| 2016 | 59.8% |
| 2015 | 60.7% |
| 2014 | 60.2% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Which Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers...
- SR: The base SR gives you the new 2.4-liter turbocharged engine tuned to 228 hp and 243 lb-ft, plus standard 17-inch steel wheels; it suits you if you want the entry point into the redesigned Tacoma.
- SR5: The SR5 adds the standard 278 hp and 317 lb-ft version of the turbo four, along with the new coil-spring multi-link rear suspension on most configurations, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
- TRD Pre-Runner: The TRD Pre-Runner keeps the rear leaf-spring setup and adds a more capability-focused character for buyers who want a truck with a tougher stance and fit-for-purpose hardware.
- TRD Sport: The TRD Sport adds sport-tuned shocks and 18-inch alloy wheels, giving you a more road-focused setup with a sharper look.
- TRD Off-Road: The TRD Off-Road adds monotube Bilstein shocks and is the trim to look at if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware front and center.
- Limited: The Limited adds an adaptive variable suspension, heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats, and a more comfort-oriented setup for buyers who want extra refinement.
- Trailhunter: The Trailhunter adds Toyota’s partnership with Old Man Emu and is aimed at buyers who want overlanding-ready hardware.
- TRD Pro: The TRD Pro adds FOX QS3 adjustable internal bypass shocks and sits at the top of the lineup for buyers who want the most capability-focused Tacoma.

The 2014 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

Customers say
The Toyota Tacoma has built a solid reputation for reliability and performance across its model years. Owners consistently praise its durability, off-road capabilities, and overall comfort. Many appreciate its strong resale value and rugged design, making it a favored option for both casual driving and work-related tasks. However, some drivers express concerns about cramped interiors, the absence of modern technology features, and pricing, particularly in comparison to competitors. Overall, the Tacoma is viewed as a dependable choice with a good balance of performance and utility.

Reviewed a 2025 Toyota Limited Double Cab 4WD on Nov 9, 2025
I bought the Limited to get the retracting running boards for easier access. It has everything you can think of and then some. It has a dash cam to record your drive. Not something I will ever use. It has remote start from an app on your phone. After year one its $15 a month. Ridiculous! It rides nice with a solid feel and has plenty of power when you need it. Yes the back seat is a bit small but doable for average height passengers. The dash screen is too big in my opinion, almost obstruct your view to the right side of the truck. The seats are comfortable and the seat position is good. The fit and finish is good!

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

Toyota Tacoma test drive
overall
The Tacoma is still truckin' right along. Toyota marks the start of the model's fourth generation with a ground-up redesign.
The fourth-gen Tacoma is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra. (The TNGA-F platform also underpins the Sequoia and the just-revived Land Cruiser.) It launches in six trim levels, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and the Tacoma's first-ever hybrid powertrain is due in the spring of 2024, along with two additional trims. We traveled to Malibu, CA to drive the all-new Tacoma in all of its gas-only guises.
