| 2014 | $19,284 | $18,484 – $19,633 |
The Toyota Tacoma's current nationwide average price is $32,145, and its lowest point over the past year was $30,562. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Tacoma a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Tacoma has a strong reputation for durability, capability, and long-term value. The all-generations owner rating is 4.53/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, off-road ability, and rugged design, and they also value its resale strength and everyday usefulness. Across the model years, the Tacoma is often described as a dependable truck with a clear identity and broad appeal for both work and recreation.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2019 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs that show up in expert reviews are a noisy cabin, a functional-feeling interior, and a back seat that can feel tight in some versions. Pricing also tends to run high for the segment, especially on newer and better-equipped trims.
33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Tacoma models reliable?
The Tacoma has a long-running reputation for durability, reliability, and strong resale value, and owners repeatedly highlight those traits across the lineup. Expert reviews also reinforce that image by pointing to the truck’s tough construction and long-term appeal.
- Owners rate the Toyota Tacoma between 4.2 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that older trucks can bring more wear and a wider spread in condition, so a careful history check matters.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Tacoma?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.3% |
| 2025 | 94.5% |
| 2024 | 91% |
| 2023 | 86.2% |
| 2022 | 79.6% |
| 2021 | 72.9% |
| 2020 | 67.3% |
| 2019 | 64% |
| 2018 | 61% |
| 2017 | 60.8% |
| 2016 | 60.5% |
| 2015 | 61.8% |
| 2014 | 61.4% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Proactive Driving Assist, road-sign assist, emergency stop system, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2024 Tacoma is expected to get 20 mpg combined with the manual transmission and 4WD, up to 21 mpg with 4WD and the automatic, and 23 mpg with FWD.
Which Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers these trims:
- SR: The base trim starts with 17-inch steel wheels, the standard 8-inch touchscreen, and the new turbocharged engine; it suits buyers who want the Tacoma’s core capability at the entry point.
- SR5: This trim adds a more mainstream setup and is one of the versions that uses the new coil spring multi-link rear suspension, making it a strong value choice for everyday use.
- TRD Pre-Runner: This trim keeps the rear leaf-spring setup and adds a more specialized truck character for buyers who want a distinct setup without moving to the higher off-road trims.
- TRD Sport: This trim adds sport-tuned shocks and 18-inch alloy wheels, giving you a more road-focused feel and a sharper look.
- TRD Off-Road: This trim adds monotube Bilstein shocks and is the clear pick if you want the Tacoma’s trail-ready hardware.
- Limited: This trim adds heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats, 18-inch alloys, and available adaptive variable suspension, making it the best-value choice for buyers who want comfort and a more upscale feel.
- Trailhunter: This trim adds Toyota’s partnership with Old Man Emu and is aimed at buyers who want overlanding-ready hardware.
- TRD Pro: This trim adds FOX QS3 adjustable internal bypass shocks and is the most capability-focused choice in the lineup.
What Toyota Tacoma do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tacoma years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 8,585 | 35.7% |
| 2023 | 7,423 | 35.1% |
| 2025 | 7,420 | 36.1% |
| 2022 | 6,233 | 32.1% |
| 2021 | 4,683 | 31.7% |
| 2026 | 4,540 | 34.5% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right trim, mileage, and price. They also tend to attract shoppers looking for newer features while still staying within the used market.
What is the Toyota Tacoma's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $39,543 | −5.58% |
| 2018 | $27,157 | −3.24% |
| 2019 | $29,097 | −3.04% |
| 2024 | $38,253 | −2.89% |
| 2016 | $23,719 | −2.58% |
| 2015 | $20,357 | −2.39% |
| 2023 | $36,147 | −2.18% |
| 2022 | $33,041 | −2.13% |
| 2020 | $30,735 | −1.96% |
| 2017 | $25,942 | −1.89% |
| 2021 | $32,266 | −1.38% |
| 2014 | $19,284 | +1.78% |
Most Tacoma model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want prices that have eased from a year ago. The declines are generally modest, with only one model year showing a gain. That pattern fits the Tacoma’s strong resale reputation while still giving buyers some room to find value.
The 2014, 2021, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Toyota Tacoma now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.58% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −2.89%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 35.7%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $38,253. The Toyota Tacoma offers a durable, rugged character that has made it a long-running favorite for work and recreation.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest Tacoma uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque on most trims, with 228 hp and 243 lb-ft in the base SR, and it pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
- Tech: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, the standard screen is 8 inches, and higher trims get a 14-inch center display.
- Safety: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 adds Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Proactive Driving Assist, road-sign assist, and an emergency stop system.
- Starting price: The Tacoma comes at a base MSRP of $31,500.

Customers say
The Toyota Tacoma has built a solid reputation for reliability and performance across its model years. Owners consistently praise its durability, off-road capabilities, and overall comfort. Many appreciate its strong resale value and rugged design, making it a favored option for both casual driving and work-related tasks. However, some drivers express concerns about cramped interiors, the absence of modern technology features, and pricing, particularly in comparison to competitors. Overall, the Tacoma is viewed as a dependable choice with a good balance of performance and utility.

Reviewed a 2025 Toyota Limited Double Cab 4WD on Nov 9, 2025
I bought the Limited to get the retracting running boards for easier access. It has everything you can think of and then some. It has a dash cam to record your drive. Not something I will ever use. It has remote start from an app on your phone. After year one its $15 a month. Ridiculous! It rides nice with a solid feel and has plenty of power when you need it. Yes the back seat is a bit small but doable for average height passengers. The dash screen is too big in my opinion, almost obstruct your view to the right side of the truck. The seats are comfortable and the seat position is good. The fit and finish is good!

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

Toyota Tacoma test drive
overall
The Tacoma is still truckin' right along. Toyota marks the start of the model's fourth generation with a ground-up redesign.
The fourth-gen Tacoma is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra. (The TNGA-F platform also underpins the Sequoia and the just-revived Land Cruiser.) It launches in six trim levels, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and the Tacoma's first-ever hybrid powertrain is due in the spring of 2024, along with two additional trims. We traveled to Malibu, CA to drive the all-new Tacoma in all of its gas-only guises.
