- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Proactive Driving Assist, road-sign assist, and an emergency stop system
- Infotainment: 8-inch standard touchscreen with Toyota Audio Multimedia, plus a 14-inch center display on higher trims and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: 20 mpg combined with the manual transmission and 4WD, up to 21 mpg with 4WD and the automatic, and 23 mpg with FWD
Which Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers these trims:
- SR: The base trim uses 17-inch steel wheels and the tuned 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, making it the entry point for shoppers who want the Tacoma’s new-generation hardware at the lowest rung.
- SR5: This trim adds the new coil spring multi-link rear suspension, making it a strong value choice for buyers who want a more refined everyday setup.
- TRD Pre-Runner: This version keeps leaf springs in the rear and is aimed at buyers who want a distinct truck setup with a more specialized character.
- TRD Sport: This trim adds sport-tuned shocks and 18-inch alloy wheels, giving you a more road-focused feel and a sharper look.
- TRD Off-Road: This is the best fit if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware, including monotube Bilstein shocks.
- Limited: This trim adds an adaptive variable suspension, heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats, and 18-inch alloy wheels, making it the best-value pick for comfort-focused buyers.
- Trailhunter: This hybrid-only trim adds Toyota’s partnership with Old Man Emu and is built for overlanding-style use.
- TRD Pro: This hybrid-only trim adds FOX QS3 adjustable internal bypass shocks and is the most extreme off-road-oriented version in the lineup.
What Toyota Tacoma do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tacoma years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 8,573 | 33.6% |
| 2023 | 7,285 | 32.4% |
| 2025 | 7,162 | 33.6% |
| 2022 | 6,141 | 31.4% |
| 2021 | 4,545 | 30.8% |
| 2026 | 4,336 | 33.5% |

| 2017 | $26,212 | −1.09% |
| 2014 | $19,337 | +0.88% |

The 2014 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2014, 2017, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Toyota Tacoma now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.46% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −2.49%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 33.6% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 33.6%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $38,547. The Toyota Tacoma offers a rugged, durable character that has made it a long-running favorite among truck shoppers.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The Tacoma is now all-turbo, all the time: The 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (branded "i-FORCE") is standard and produces 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque on most trims. It’s tuned for 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque in the base Tacoma SR, still far exceeding the 159 hp and 180 lb-ft the base 2023 Tacoma mustered.
- Tech: Now, 8 inches is the standard size, and higher trims get a massive 14-inch center display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
- Safety: The Tacoma still comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), but that now includes more active features such as Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, and Proactive Driving Assist.
- Starting price: The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes at a base MSRP of $31,500, before the $1,495 destination fee.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Reviewed a 2025 Toyota Limited Double Cab 4WD on Nov 9, 2025
I bought the Limited to get the retracting running boards for easier access. It has everything you can think of and then some. It has a dash cam to record your drive. Not something I will ever use. It has remote start from an app on your phone. After year one its $15 a month. Ridiculous! It rides nice with a solid feel and has plenty of power when you need it. Yes the back seat is a bit small but doable for average height passengers. The dash screen is too big in my opinion, almost obstruct your view to the right side of the truck. The seats are comfortable and the seat position is good. The fit and finish is good!

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

Toyota Tacoma test drive
overall
The Tacoma is still truckin' right along. Toyota marks the start of the model's fourth generation with a ground-up redesign.
The fourth-gen Tacoma is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra. (The TNGA-F platform also underpins the Sequoia and the just-revived Land Cruiser.) It launches in six trim levels, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and the Tacoma's first-ever hybrid powertrain is due in the spring of 2024, along with two additional trims. We traveled to Malibu, CA to drive the all-new Tacoma in all of its gas-only guises.
