Picture of Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid The third-generation Porsche Cayenne E-Hybird, initially launched for the 2019 model year, receives a thorough refresh for 2024. One of the world's most impressive luxury SUVs, this performance-focused hybrid adds more power and technology with its latest iteration. ## What's New for 2024 Like all 2024 Porsche Cayenne models, the E-Hybrid plug-in hybrids get updates for the new model year that stop short of a full redesign, but are substantial nonetheless. All Cayenne models get a revamped interior accommodating more screens, some exterior styling changes, and revised powertrain lineups. These changes keep the current third-generation Cayenne—which was launched as a 2019 model—fresh in the face of competition like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class until a redesigned model arrives. For 2024, the Cayenne plug-in hybrid lineup consists of the base E-Hybrid, mid-level S E-Hybrid, and the high-performance Turbo E-Hybrid. All three are available in both the standard Cayenne body style and the Cayenne Coupe. Non-hybrid models continue as well, but we’ll cover those in separate previews. ## Design The 2024 updates include subtle styling changes. The front fascia incorporates redesigned headlights with standard Matrix LED elements that Porsche claims increase illumination. The taillights now have a more three-dimensional look, while the rear fascia has been tweaked as well. As noted above, Porsche offers E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid powertrains in both the standard Cayenne and the Cayenne Coupe. The latter has a lower roofline, giving this luxury SUV a sleeker silhouette. The Cayenne Coupe still has four doors, and so isn’t a true coupe by the traditional definition, but this type of design is the norm for the modern generation of SUV coupes. Cayenne models get standard 20-inch wheels, with 21-inch wheels and 22-inch wheels available on certain trim levels. The wheel designs are new for 2024, as are Algarve Blue Metallic, Montego Blue Metallic, and Arctic Grey. As before, E-Hybrid models are distinguished by subtle badging with green trim, as well as green-painted brake calipers. ## Powertrain The base Cayenne E-Hybrid uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 teamed with a more powerful electric motor producing 174 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque, compared to 134 hp and 295 lb-ft previously. That boosts overall output from 455 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque to 463 hp and 516 lb-ft. All Cayenne E-Hybrid models have an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). The battery pack in all models has been enlarged for 2024 to 25.9 kilowatt-hours from 17.9 kWh previously. EPA electric-range ratings weren’t available at the time of publication, however. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid has a more powerful version of the base model’s V6, bringing total system output to 512 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. This will get the S E-Hybrid from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and through the quarter mile in 13 seconds, Porsche estimates. The top Turbo E-Hybrid swaps the single-turbo V6 for a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. With electric power factored in, it’s rated at 729 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque. That makes the Turbo E-Hybrid the most powerful Cayenne ever, and will get it from zero to 60 mph in an estimated 3.5 seconds. Porsche also quotes a 183-mph top speed. ## Interior Like other 2024 Cayenne models, the E-Hybrids get screens spanning the entire dashboard. The full-fat setup includes a 12.7-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch central touchscreen, and an additional 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. Porsche also made some smaller changes throughout the dashboard. The shifter is now a small toggle on the dashboard, which Porsche says freed up room for storage space and climate controls. Those include large air vent controls, as well as a haptic audio volume knob. The stalk located behind the steering wheel now handles some driver-assistance functions as well. The rest of the interior hasn’t changed much, not that there was much that needed changing. Like other versions of the Cayenne, you can expect plenty of options for seats, upholstery, trim, and colors in the E-Hybrid models at extra cost. ## Technology The screen-heavy approach for 2024 marks a big change for this Porsche SUV. The Cayenne previously used an analog instrument cluster rather than a digital one. The central touchscreen got some tweaks to its interface as well, and Porsche has never offered a front-passenger screen in the Cayenne before. It even includes streaming-video capability, along with a special layer on the screen that hides whatever is on the screen from the driver. Cayenne E-Hybrid models are also available with the same chassis tech as other versions of the Cayenne, including adaptive air suspension Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Off-Road modes, rear-axle steering, and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilization. ## Safety Safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) weren’t available at the time of publication. But we do know 2024 Cayenne E-Hybrid models will come standard with driver-assistance features like lane-change assist, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, and a speed-limit assist feature that automatically adjusts the speed to the posted limit when using cruise control. Adaptive cruise control and automated lane keeping are optional. For 2024, Porsche’s adaptive cruise control system can now assist the driver in evasive maneuvers and intervenes if an imminent collision is anticipated when making a lefthand turn. ## Pricing Pricing starts at $93,350 for the base E-Hybrid SUV and $99,500 for the E-Hybrid Coupe (all prices include a mandatory $1,650 destination charge). The S E-Hybrid starts at $100,750, while the S E-Hybrid Coupe starts at $105,650, with both versions scheduled to reach dealerships in spring 2024. The range-topping Turbo E-Hybrid and Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe start at $148,550 and $153,050, respectively, and will reach showrooms later in 2024.
