For the 2023 model year, the Sprinter Cargo's engine selections have been reworked. Mercedes-Benz has also updated the available 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

Design

The Sprinter is available in two wheelbase lengths and two roof eights, for four different combinations. There are a 144-inch wheelbase and a 170-inch wheelbase, as well as a standard roof and high-roof design. The Sprinter comes equipped with black plastic bumpers and steel wheels. It can be outfitted with body-colored bumpers, alloy wheels, and fog lights.

Powertrain

The Sprinter cargo van comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which makes 188 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It’s also available with one of two turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engines. The standard-output diesel engine makes 170 horsepower and 296 pound-feet of torque, while the high-output turbodiesel engine makes 211 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.

Power is routed through a new nine-speed automatic transmission to rear-wheel drive (RWD). The high-output diesel engine is also available with all-wheel drive (AWD). When properly equipped, the Sprinter can tow up to 7,500 pounds, and it has a payload capacity of 6,812 pounds.

Interior

In its largest configuration, with the extended-wheelbase and the high roof, the Sprinter Cargo Van provides an impressive 586 cubic feet of cargo space. The two front seats come with basic cloth upholstery. It’s also available with upgraded cloth upholstery or synthetic leather upholstery. The Sprinter is also available with power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and even front seats that swivel towards the cargo area.

Technology

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is available with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It runs the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system, which generally has an easy-to-use interface. It also responds to prompts like “Hey, Mercedes…” and understands complex commands. A larger 10.25-inch version of this infotainment system is also available. The package that adds this larger screen also adds navigation and a wireless charging pad.

Safety

The 2023 Sprinter is offered with modern high-tech safety features such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver-attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also has a helpful crosswind assist, so big gusts don’t get the best of you on the highway. It’s also available with active lane-keeping assist and traffic-sign recognition.
