That puts the model in a broad price band that stretches from older, more affordable examples to much newer, higher-priced versions. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a strong used-car choice if you want luxury, comfort, and technology across a wide range of model years. The all-generations owner rating is 4.61/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners repeatedly praise the E-Class for its smooth ride, elegant interiors, and strong performance. They also consistently value its advanced features and refined driving experience, which help the car feel special even in older model years.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2021 models among the highest across all years.
The main tradeoffs are high pricing, maintenance costs, and, in some versions, a less satisfying brake feel or infotainment experience. Even so, the E-Class remains a compelling used luxury car because it delivers comfort, prestige, and breadth of choice in one package.
31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Mercedes-Benz E-Class models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Mercedes-Benz E-Class as comfortable, refined, and well built, and expert reviews repeatedly highlight its luxury feel, strong performance, and advanced features. Across the model years in the data, that combination gives the E-Class a reputation for delivering a polished ownership experience.
- Owners rate the Mercedes-Benz E-Class between 4.64 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-maintained example and reviewing service history carefully, since upkeep costs can be significant on luxury models.
What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Across all model years, at 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 97.3% |
| 2025 | 97.3% |
| 2024 | 92.5% |
| 2023 | 89.5% |

| 2021 | 76.2% |
| 2020 | 68.1% |
| 2019 | 63.8% |
| 2018 | 59.5% |
| 2017 | 56.2% |
| 2016 | 54.4% |
| 2015 | 56.1% |
| 2014 | 57.6% |

Overall, the table points to a market that has become more favorable for buyers across much of the lineup.

- Powertrain/efficiency: The heart of this PHEV is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine paired with a 120-kilowatt electric motor and 21.2-kilowatt-hour battery, and it returns an EPA-rated 41 miles of electric range and 22 mpg combined in hybrid mode.
- Tech: As expected, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with an augmented reality navigation system, music streaming, and a Burmester 4D surround-sound system with Dolby Atmos technology.
- Safety: The optional Driver Assistance Package adds 16 additional systems, among them adaptive cruise control, active blind-spot monitoring, active lane-keep assist, active steering assist, and automatic lane change capability.
- Starting price: The AMG E 53 Hybrid is the performance upgrade, with a base price of $94,700, including destination.

Fully redesigned for 2024, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class shifts its focus more to technology than ever, and faces rivals like the Audi A6 and the BMW 5-Series.
What’s New for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Everything is new—it’s a full redesign. So far, Mercedes has announced just three trim levels, the E-Class sedan in 350 4Matic and 450 4Matic, and the E-Class All-Terrain wagon in 450 4Matic. According to precedent, there’s likely to be additional versions available later in the model’s lifecycle. The 350 and 450 versions are both mild-hybrids, which serves to enhance power rather than efficiency, yet emphasis is on infotainment and comfort rather than performance.
Design
If you’ve paid even a little attention to the E-Class’ evolution over the decades, and even a little attention to Mercedes’ current design efforts, the 2024 E-Class should come as no surprise. The sedan is low, sleek, and luxurious; the All-Terrain wagon is particularly gorgeous despite its massive, borderline-overkill grille, tough and brash yet somehow unbelievably elegant simply for the fact that a vehicle that pretty will actually want to get dirty.
Powertrain
At launch, the E-Class models will be available with two powertrains, both standard with a 9-speed automatic transmission, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and 4Matic all-wheel drive. The E-Class 350 4Matic sedan will feature a 2.0-liter Inline-4 turbocharged engine rated for 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The 450 4Matic powertrain is optional in the E-Class sedan and standard in the E-Class All-Terrain, a 3.0-liter Inline-6 turbocharged engine rated for 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. As for the All-Terrain, yes, its capability is intended be used as its name suggests — Mercedes-Benz even includes off-road monitors. We expect fuel economy ratings to be available closer to launch.
Interior
The 2024 E-Class sedan accommodates five passengers in comfort. The cabin design is completely focused on the standard and optional technology features, though seating comes with numerous power adjustments and options such as upscale premium upholstery, and a large greenhouse lets in plenty of light. Mercedes has focused on using sustainable materials on interior surfaces wherever possible, though they don’t detract from the E-Class’ overall ambience.
Technology
Though it’s optional rather than standard, the new Mercedes-Benz MBUX Superscreen is the centerpiece of the 2024 E-Class experience. This new digital display extends across the entire cockpit, though it’s designed so that the front passenger’s segment of the display doesn’t distract the driver. Available active ambient lighting can be set to accent whatever is playing on the stereo, and selected third-party apps, such as Zoom and Angry Birds, are available.
Safety
Mercedes fits every 2024 E-Class with active brake assist, active lane-keeping assist, a reversing camera, speed limit assist, and driver-attention monitoring. The optional Driving Assistance Plus package bundles active distance assist, active steering assist, and an alert to let the driver know when active steering assist is no longer available. As of this writing, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has not yet been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Pricing
As of this writing, Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced pricing for the 2024 E-Class lineup, and the 2024 E-Class models are not yet listed on Mercedes’ website. However, Mercedes says the 2024 E-Class is expected to be available in the United States in the first half of 2024 for sedan models. The E-Class All-Terrain is also expected in 2024, but it’s unclear when.
