McLaren’s exploits include some of the most iconic supercars ever produced, and the automaker has a sizeable footprint in the motorsport world. Its road cars are among the most desirable models around, and the new Artura is no exception. It pairs a twin-turbocharged V6 engine with a hybrid system to make massive power and deliver brutal acceleration. Additionally, it gets several driver-assistance features and a price tag of almost a quarter-million dollars.

What’s New for the 2023 McLaren Artura

The Artura is a new model for McLaren in 2023, bringing the brand’s first hybrid V6 powertrain and a new MCLA (for McLaren Carbon Fiber Lightweight Architecture) platform.

Design

The Artura is McLaren, refined. It features large side vents to cool the mid-mounted engine, and its front end slopes dramatically toward the nose. McLaren equips large staggered wheels and scissor doors, and much of the car’s rear is taken up by a large grille to vent the engine and house the exhaust pipes.

Powertrain

McLaren equips a twin-turbocharged hybrid V6 that produces 671 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an electric motor mounted in the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission’s (DCT's) bell housing, and the powertrain delivers 11 miles of electric range. The run from zero to 60 mph takes around 2.6 seconds. Though it’s rear-wheel-drive (RWD), the Artura gets power down efficiently, thanks to its sticky performance tires. The rear-axle-mounted electric motor provides instant torque off the line, giving the car an even more ferocious feel during hard acceleration.

Interior

McLaren’s interiors often deliver more function over form, but the Artura’s cabin is more than nice enough for the price. It’s got synthetic suede in all the right places, and its two-seat configuration offers great space for both passengers. The seats have power adjustments, and the cabin has solid ergonomics giving the driver the ability to concentrate on the road or track instead of managing interior comfort. Outward visibility is fantastic, and the large door openings make it easy to get in. That said, the car’s gravity-defying ride height and exotic scissor doors may make it hard for some to climb out gracefully.

Technology

Some supercar makers integrate the infotainment screen with the gauge cluster to keep the cabin clean and tidy, but McLaren includes an 8-inch touchscreen with SiriusXM, navigation, and other features. The available technology pack brings a 12-speaker Bowers and Wilkins stereo, and buyers can add individual options such as a fire extinguisher and an ash tray.

Safety

Supercars aren’t always the most generous on advanced safety equipment, but McLaren offers a few driver aids. The options list includes automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and road-sign recognition. While most new cars see extensive crash testing prior to sale, the Artura’s extreme expense means nobody’s going to be jumping at the opportunity to destroy one anytime soon.

Pricing

The 2023 McLaren Artura starts at around $237,500, but most will sell for much more than that with options, upgrades, and accessories.
