The Sportage has been a prominent part of Kia’s lineup for a long time, and the automaker has given it thoughtful updates over the years that have kept it a top-rated model in its segment. Sharp styling and a fantastic list of standard features are highlights of the 2024 model, and it offers great interior space for the family and gear.

What’s New for the 2024 Kia Sportage

Kia completely redesigned the Sportage for 2023, so changes in 2024 are dramatically less impactful. For 2024, the SUV got standard LED projection headlights and a lower-emissions engine, and Kia cut the SX AWD trim.

Design

The latest Sportage redesign brought more grown-up styling with Kia’s signature “tiger nose” grille and sculpted sides that give the SUV an interesting look from all angles. Kia equips 17-inch wheels as standard, but higher trims step up to 18- or 19-inch alloys.

Powertrain

The Sportage is available in hybrid variants, which we cover separately, but the gas model gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD). There’s decent power for in-town commuting, and the Sportage is easily maneuverable in tight spaces, but the SUV could use more power, especially on the highway. That said, it offers a relatively smooth ride, and handling is confident.

Interior

The five-seat Sportage comes standard with cloth upholstery and manual front seats. Available features include synthetic leather with heated and ventilated front seats, power front seat adjustments, a heated steering wheel, and more.

Technology

Kia equips an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the 2024 Sportage. Other standard tech includes HD radio, Bluetooth, USB inputs, voice commands, and six speakers. A 12.3-inch display is available, along with navigation, wireless charging, rear USB ports, dual-zone climate control, a Harman Kardon sound system, and SiriusXM radio. Though the larger screen is visually impressive, it requires a wired connection for smartphone mirroring, unlike its smaller counterpart. That said, Kia’s infotainment is simple and less distracting to use than many competing systems, and the snappy interface makes interacting with the Sportage a breeze.

Safety

The 2024 Sportage hasn’t been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but the 2023 model earned a Top Safety Pick award. Standard safety tech includes a rearview camera, forward-collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, driver-attention monitoring, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warnings, cyclist and pedestrian detection, and parking sensors. Higher trims get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, reverse automatic emergency braking, a highway-driving assist system, and more.

Pricing

As of this writing, the base 2024 Kia Sportage LX starts at $27,090. The EX trim starts at $29,090, and the sharply styled X-Line AWD starts at $31,890. Moving up to the SX trim pushes the price to $32,590, and moving all the way to the Sportage X-Pro Prestige model drives the MSRP to $37,890.
