The Grand Cherokee is a cornerstone of Jeep’s lineup, but it has lacked the interior seating space many families need. Jeep remedied that problem a couple of years ago with the introduction of the Grand Cherokee L, a three-row version of the venerable family-hauling off-roader.

What’s New for the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

Changes to the Grand Cherokee L for the 2024 model year are mild. Most notable is the new wheel design for the Grand Cherokee L Limited trim.

Design

Jeep’s latest Grand Cherokee redesign brought more upright and refined styling to the SUV, and the stretched L model retains the graceful dimensions of the smaller two-row model without any awkwardness from its increased length. Jeep offers a range of wheel options depending on the trim, and more expensive variants get plenty of chrome.

Powertrain

The 2024 Grand Cherokee L comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 making 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive (RWD or 4WD). Jeep offers a 5.7-liter V8 with 357 horsepower and 390 pounds of torque. Two 4WD systems are available, and top trims get a height-adjustable air suspension system. Towing maxes out at 6,000 pounds, and the most efficient configurations return 26 mpg on the highway.

Interior

The Grand Cherokee has always been a more luxurious take on the rugged Jeep formula, and the new L model only adds to that tradition. Its cabin feels nice and upscale, even in the entry-level trims. Top configurations add high-end wood, metal, and leather accents, and buyers can option the front seats with ventilation and massaging. The third-row seat is smaller and less accommodating than the others, but there’s enough space for adults on short trips, and kids can manage without issue.

Technology

Jeep gives the Grand Cherokee L an 8.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB inputs, and more. Its Uconnect infotainment interface is one of the best in the business, bringing responsive controls, intuitive menus, and plenty of great features. The Grand Cherokee L also gets a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, and buyers can add a front passenger display that brings an additional 10.25-inch screen.

Safety

The Grand Cherokee L earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2023, which included “Good” scores in most categories. Jeep gives every SUV a range of safety equipment, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, forward-collision warnings, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warnings, and more. Higher trims get a head-up display, traffic-sign recognition, a night-vision system, parking sensors, and an off-road camera system.

Pricing

The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L starts at $42,130. The Laredo X adds $500 to that price, and stepping all the way up to the plush Summit Reserve trim brings the L’s starting price to $72,435. All models have an additional $1,795 tacked on for destination.
