The current generation of the Hyundai Elantra debuted for the 2021 model year, bringing the “sensuous sportiness” design principle to the long-running compact sedan. But the South Korean automaker is loath to rest on its laurels lately, and the 2024 Elantra takes the model’s evolution a step further.

What’s New for the 2024 Hyundai Elantra

The Elantra has been updated inside and out for 2024. It’s got a new front-end design, eye-catching new taillights, new wheel options ranging from 15 to 18 inches in size, and new tech and safety features. The Elantra N, too, enjoys an interior and an exterior refresh and improvements to its ride and handling. (The Hyundai Elantra N is treated as a separate model.)

Design

The latest iteration of the Elantra adopts a wide, “shark-nosed” front fascia. The new grille is horizontally divided into two separate sections, contributing to the sense that the car is long, low, and, above all, wide. The slim, tucked-away standard LED daytime running lights and the flat stainless steel Hyundai badge complete the selachian look.

Powertrain

Hyundai has shared that the 2024 Elantra’s powertrain lineup will include three gas-powered options (a 2.0-liter, a turbocharged 2.0-liter, and a turbocharged 1.6-liter) and one hybrid (which will incorporate a 1.6-liter engine. We know that the 2.0-liter turbo will power the 2024 Elantra N, but we don’t yet have official information on which of the other powertrains will be assigned to which trims. If we had to guess, we’d put the 2.0-liter in SE, SEL, and Limited trims and the turbocharged 1.6 in the N-Line. The hybrid powertrain is, of course, expected to appear in the Elantra Hybrid.

Interior

The new Elantra gets cushier, with new soft-touch panels inside the front doors and new H-Tex synthetic leather upholstery for the Limited trim. Controls are subtly oriented toward the driver, and a hand rail doubles as a barrier further delineating everything starting with the center console and heading left as the domain of the pilot.

Technology

For 2024, the Elantra gets a new 4.2-inch driver-information display. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen is now standard starting with the SEL trim (last year, it was available as part of the SEL Convenience Package and became standard with N-Line). This will no doubt support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, just as it did before. Hyundai has added a USB-C port up front and placed two at the back of the center console for rear-seat passengers, and the automaker has redesigned the Elantra’s available wireless charging pad as well, adding a guardrail to keep the charging phone in place. The Elantra comes standard with six speakers, but Limited and N-Line trims now get an eight-speaker Bose Premium Audio system by default.

Safety

The 2023 Elantra came with a generous list of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and automatic high beams. Hyundai has added standard haptic feedback functionality to the steering wheel to warn drivers when they trigger the lane-keeping, blind-spot collision warning, or rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance systems. A new rear-seatbelt reminder is now standard on all trims, as are new rear side airbags.

Pricing

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is set to go on sale in the US in the fall of 2023. Pricing is not yet available as of this writing, but trends in the Elantra’s base MSRP have us expecting only minimal increases. Even after redesigning the Elantra for 2021, Hyundai increased the model’s base price by just $350, so we’re not anticipating anything outrageous.
