What should I look for when buying a used Ford Maverick?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.2% |
| 2025 | 92.7% |
| 2024 | 90.5% |
| 2023 | 87.5% |
| 2022 | 85.3% |
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centering and stop-and-go functions.
- Infotainment: Sync 4 with a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The base FWD hybrid returns an impressive EPA-estimated 38 mpg combined (42 mpg city, 35 mpg highway), and the new-for-2025 AWD hybrid is just behind it at 37 mpg combined (40 mpg city, 34 mpg highway).
Which Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2025 Ford Maverick offers these trims:
- XL: The entry trim keeps the Maverick's basic-chic personality intact with 17-inch steel wheels, a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the core hybrid setup. It suits you if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup.
- XLT: This trim adds more convenience and driver-assist content, including lane-keep assist and lane-departure warning, while keeping the Maverick's practical, approachable character. It is the best-value choice if you want a stronger equipment mix without moving too far up the range.
- Lariat: This trim brings a more upscale feel with 19-inch alloys, a gloss-black grille, and available towing tech such as Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. It suits you if you want the most polished everyday version.
- Tremor: This off-road model adds dedicated suspension tuning, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, skid plates, and a twin-clutch rear drive unit for its AWD system. It is the right pick if you want the Maverick's most trail-ready hardware.
- Lobo: This performance-focused trim adds lowered suspension, a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, dual-piston front brake calipers, upgraded cooling, and a track-focused drive mode. It suits you if you want the most distinctive street-truck character in the lineup.
What Ford Maverick do most buyers choose?
The Ford Maverick years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 2,666 | 30% |
| 2023 | 2,540 | 29.3% |
| 2025 | 2,521 | 29% |
| 2022 | 1,351 | 30.1% |
| 2026 | 1,332 | 29.4% |
Those higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right trim, mileage, and price. They also sit in the sweet spot where newer features and broader availability overlap.
What is the Ford Maverick's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $23,818 | −8.48% |
| 2025 | $32,010 | −5.2% |
| 2024 | $29,357 | −4.27% |
| 2023 | $27,086 | −3.59% |
Prices are moving lower across every year shown, which is good news if you're shopping used. The declines are strongest on the oldest model year in the table, while the newer years are also easing down from where they were a year ago. That pattern gives you more room to find value without waiting for a major shift in the market.
The 2023, 2024, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Ford Maverick safe?
- 2025: 6/10
- 2023: 7/10
- 2022: 7/10
The 2025 Maverick includes forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centering and stop-and-go functions on higher trims.
For the safest used buy, the 2022 and 2023 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Ford Maverick now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.2% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.27%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 29% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 30%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $29,357. The Ford Maverick offers compact-truck practicality in a small, easy-to-live-with package that works especially well for city driving and lighter hauling.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The standard hybrid powertrain is now available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or AWD, while the non-hybrid powertrain is AWD-only; the hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a single electric motor, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while the optional 2.0-liter Ecoboost turbocharged four-cylinder produces 238 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.
- Tech: The Sync 3 infotainment system has been replaced with the current Sync 4 system, a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen replaces the previous eight-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard as well.
- Safety: A 360-degree camera system is a new addition to the option list for 2025.
- Starting price: For 2025, Maverick pricing starts at $29,840.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

The truck is basic by 2025 standards. But I really like it. Does everything I need. Currently getting 45.1 miles per gallon

Economical with hybrid engine. AWD available and also Lariat trim. Short bed. 4 doors. CVT. Compare to Honda Ridgeline and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Although I’ve only owned for about a month, I haven’t found anything that I don’t like about this truck. Comfortable, easy to maneuver, responsive and economical to run, I think it will work well for me. I don’t need a powerhouse or heavy hauler, just something for the occasional lumber yard run. I’ve added about 1000 miles with the average mpg at 40.2. Love that hybrid engine, I was hoping for good mileage but was really happy to see real results.

Love it! Rides like a dream. Has all the new features, gets great mileage. Seats in Fords are super comfortable. Back seat is roomy. Large glove box, lots of storage, sunglasses holder. Reverse camera. Very similar to an Explorer Sport Trac we loved.

Ford Maverick test drive
overall

The Maverick lineup grows as prices rise.
The Ford Maverick really shook up the pickup-truck market when it arrived as a 2022 model. Ford’s compact pickup utilizes the same basic platform as the Escape and Bronco Sport crossovers, but offers real truck capability and a hybrid powertrain to boot. The 2025 model features styling and tech updates, but the biggest news is a Maverick Lobo performance variant and an all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid, so that’s what we focused on for this first drive.
Verdict: The Maverick is still a great vehicle, but it’s not quite the bargain it once was.
