Customer summary
Overall, owners of the Ford F-150 greatly appreciate its powerful performance, reliability, and spacious interiors across multiple model years. Drivers frequently praise its advanced features, smooth ride, and the variety of engine options, particularly the EcoBoost and V8 engines, which offer impressive power and fuel economy. However, some common critiques include concerns about higher pricing, fuel efficiency, and missing features in certain models. Despite these downsides, the F-150 remains a top choice for anyone in the market for a versatile and capable truck.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by checking service history closely and focusing on well-maintained examples, especially as mileage and age increase.
What should I look for when buying a used Ford F-150?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 83.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96% |
| 2025 | 94.8% |
| 2024 | 93% |
| 2023 | 91.3% |
| 2022 | 89.4% |
| 2021 | 84.1% |
| 2020 | 78.6% |
| 2019 | 74.2% |
| 2018 | 71.4% |
| 2017 | 68.9% |
| 2016 | 65.3% |
| 2015 | 65.8% |
| 2014 | 66.3% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2020 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Standard on all F-150 trims are high-beam assist, blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert, forward automatic emergency braking with intersection assist and pedestrian detection, evasive steering assist, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, rear parking sensors, and rear emergency braking.
- Infotainment: A 12-inch touchscreen with Sync 4 software and an analog instrument panel with a 4-inch display are standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid’s city fuel economy is impressive at 23 mpg, but the V6 and V8 models come close on the highway (our Lobo is rated at 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined).
Which Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2026 Ford F-150 offers these trims:
- XL: The starting point, with the 2.7-liter turbo V6 available as the base engine and the 5.0-liter V8 as the only engine for the base XL with the 6.5-foot bed.
- STX: A strong value pick with the 2.7-liter turbo V6 standard, plus the Lobo upgrades in the expert-tested truck for a more distinctive street-focused look.
- XLT: Adds the 2.7-liter turbo V6 standard and opens the door to optional BlueCruise and other available tech.
- Lariat: Brings access to optional BlueCruise, plus available comfort and convenience upgrades such as massaging front seats, heated rear seats, navigation, and a full digital instrument panel.
- Tremor: The best-value off-road-oriented choice, with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 standard, 4WD with low range standard, and the kind of hardware that suits buyers who want extra capability.
- King Ranch: Adds the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 standard, wraparound LED headlights, tan leather, a power tailgate, and a more upscale cabin presentation.
- Platinum: Also gets the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 standard, wraparound LED headlights, and a darker upscale look with premium interior touches.
- Raptor: The serious performance and off-road model, with the V6 Raptor output, lifted and widened stance, racing suspension, amber lights, and three dashed clearance lights.
- Raptor R: The top performance trim, with the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 and the most extreme output in the lineup.
What Ford F-150 do most buyers choose?
The Ford F-150 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2021.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 9,637 | 32.7% |
| 2024 | 9,632 | 32.4% |
| 2021 | 9,614 | 30.8% |
| 2023 | 9,602 | 31.9% |
| 2017 | 9,602 | 28.6% |
| 2018 | 9,557 | 28.6% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a broad mix of availability, pricing, and equipment choices. When more listings are on the market, it’s easier to compare trims and find a truck that fits your budget and feature priorities.
What is the Ford F-150's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $51,394 | −15.05% |
| 2024 | $46,190 | −10.78% |
| 2015 | $17,711 | −7.91% |
| 2021 | $32,842 | −6.92% |
| 2022 | $37,583 | −6.75% |
| 2020 | $28,629 | −6.62% |
| 2016 | $18,960 | −6.43% |
| 2019 | $26,298 | −6.42% |
| 2017 | $21,549 | −5.13% |
| 2014 | $15,161 | −4.88% |
| 2023 | $42,138 | −3.53% |
| 2018 | $24,132 | −3.44% |
Most model years are down year over year, and the newer trucks show the steepest drops. That pattern can work in your favor if you’re shopping used, since recent model years have seen meaningful price movement. The smaller declines in some older years suggest those trucks have been a bit steadier in the market.
The 2018, 2023, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Ford F-150 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −15.05% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −10.78%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32.7% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 32.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $51,394. The Ford F-150 offers broad capability, strong towing and hauling usefulness, and a wide range of configurations that make it easy to tailor to your needs.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The F-150 performs best when towing at half to three quarters of its estimated capacity (a maximum of 13,500 pounds or 2,440 pounds of payload, depending on the exact configuration), and the hybrid’s city fuel economy is impressive at 23 mpg, but the V6 and V8 models come close on the highway (our Lobo is rated at 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined).
- Tech: A 12-inch touchscreen with Sync 4 software and an analog instrument panel with a 4-inch display are standard, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, too.
- Safety: Standard on all F-150 trims are high-beam assist, blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert, forward automatic emergency braking with intersection assist and pedestrian detection, evasive steering assist, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, rear parking sensors, and rear emergency braking.
- Starting price: The 2026 Ford F-150 starts at around $40,000 for the XL.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

My 2024 Lariat has some great features, and I am still learning about them all. I could be wrong but the seats are not leather but vinyl that looks like leather. I dont mind it at all. I guess I would compare it to GMCs Delali.

Ford F-150 test drive
overall

Modest changes power the F-150 through its 49th year of being the bestselling truck in the United States.
In its 14th generation and two years after a modest refresh, the 2026 Ford F-150 reshuffles standard and optional equipment across its eight trims, three beds, three cabs, and six powertrains. The electric F-150 Lightning ended production after the 2025 model year, leaving with it the potential for a plug-in hybrid in a future generation. For this test, we grabbed a low-level trim—the STX Lobo—to see how the F-150 fares with a traditional V8 and fewer features.
Verdict: The F-150 is the full-size truck with the most versatility and configurations on the market today.
