How much does the BMW i5 cost in today's market?
Used BMW i5 prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $58,440 | $57,477 – $66,163 |
| 2024 | $51,025 | $48,656 – $54,325 |
The BMW i5's current nationwide average price is $56,209, and its nationwide average price reached a low of $56,209 over the past year. That puts the model in a relatively accessible position for a luxury EV, especially when you focus on recent used examples.
Recently, prices have come down for the 2024 and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the BMW i5 a good car?
The BMW i5 presents a compelling mix of comfort, range, and driving enjoyment, but the ownership feedback in the data is mixed. The all-generations owner rating is 1/5 across every model year in the data.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 model among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs center on unintuitive technology, a busy infotainment interface, and the need to dig through menus for some controls. Even so, the i5’s strong ride quality, lively performance, and comfortable cabin keep it appealing for luxury-EV shoppers.
35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are BMW i5 models reliable?
Owners consistently rate the BMW i5 very poorly in the data, while expert commentary points to a solidly built cabin, smooth driving manners, and well-behaved driver-assistance operation. That combination suggests the car can feel polished on the road even if long-term owner sentiment is weak.
- Owners rate the BMW i5 1 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk looks elevated because owner satisfaction is extremely low across the model range.
What should I look for when buying a used BMW i5?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.4% |
| 2025 | 94.7% |
| 2024 | 94% |
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: All i5 models come standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist.
- Infotainment: The iDrive infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless charging pad.
- Range & charging: The 2024 BMW i5 uses an 84.3-kWh battery pack and offers an EPA-estimated 270 to 295 miles of range, with the i5 M60 xDrive ranging from 240 to 256 miles.
- Battery health: As with any used EV, check battery state-of-health, ask how the car was typically charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and review the remaining battery warranty before you buy.
Which BMW i5 trim should I buy?
The 2024 BMW i5 offers these trims:
- eDrive40: The entry-level rear-wheel-drive model delivers 335 horsepower, an 84.3-kWh battery, and the strongest range figures in the lineup; it is the best-value choice for most shoppers who want the core i5 experience.
- xDrive40: This trim adds dual-motor all-wheel drive and more power, making it the better pick if you want extra traction and stronger all-weather confidence.
- M60 xDrive: The performance-focused trim adds 593 horsepower, a sport-tuned adaptive suspension, and the quickest acceleration in the lineup for buyers who want the most athletic i5.
What BMW i5 do most buyers choose?
The BMW i5 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2026.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 304 | 35.5% |
| 2024 | 232 | 35.8% |
| 2026 | 137 | 36.5% |
| 2027 | 78 | 34.6% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choice, more pricing competition, and a better chance of finding the color, trim, and equipment mix you want. That’s why they tend to be the most popular used picks.
What is the BMW i5's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $58,440 | −11.37% |
| 2024 | $51,025 | −6.08% |
Both model years show meaningful price declines, which is good news if you’re shopping used. The newer year has fallen more sharply, while the older year has also moved down at a sizable pace. That creates a more buyer-friendly setup across the recent i5 lineup.
The 2024 and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the BMW i5 safe?
- 2024: 7/10
All i5 models come standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist.
For the safest used buy, the 2024 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used BMW i5 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −11.37% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −6.08%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 35.8%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $58,440. The BMW i5 offers a comfortable cabin, strong road manners, and a refined luxury-sedan feel that make it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Range & charging: The 2024 BMW i5 is powered by an 84.3-kWh battery pack and offers an EPA-estimated 270 to 295 miles of range, while the M60 xDrive ranges from 240 to 256 miles.
- Tech: The iDrive infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad.
- Safety: The latest model adds adaptive cruise control, a hands-free highway assistant, active lane-change assist, and lane-keep steering intervention.
- Starting price: The BMW i5 eDrive40 starts at $67,795.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Poorly designed and engineered. Make extreme high fan noise during and after super fast charging sessions, unlike all other luxury Evs that do not. (Electrify America). Also constant clunking sound during and shortly after departing from sessions. Signs of defect and overheating, safety concerns not addressed by purchasing dealer and manufacture.
