Should I buy a used BMW i5 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −13.56% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.83%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32.3% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $58,216. The BMW i5 offers a quiet, comfortable cabin with a polished luxury feel that suits daily driving and longer trips.
Consider waiting if:
- Range & charging: The 2024 BMW i5 is available in two trim levels. We drove the entry-level eDrive40 which utilizes a single-electric-motor powertrain with rear-wheel drive (RWD). It's good for 335 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque and should accelerate the i5 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Power is drawn from an 84.3-kWh battery pack in the floor and range varies between an EPA-estimated 270 and 295 miles, depending on which wheels you choose.
- Tech: The i5's iDrive infotainment system deserves praise for its sharp graphics and quick responses, and many systems such as entertainment, navigation, and climate control can be operated with natural speech commands. Many owners will likely prefer to use their phone as their primary infotainment hub and for them, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
- Safety: All i5 models come standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist.
- Starting price: Prices for the new BMW i5 eDrive40 single-motor model start at $67,795.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2028 inventory to mature.

Poorly designed and engineered. Make extreme high fan noise during and after super fast charging sessions, unlike all other luxury Evs that do not. (Electrify America). Also constant clunking sound during and shortly after departing from sessions. Signs of defect and overheating, safety concerns not addressed by purchasing dealer and manufacture.
