- Safety package: The 2025 X5’s standard Active Driving Assistant includes lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning, while the Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Highway Assistant.
- Infotainment: The 2025 X5’s curved dashboard display includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen running BMW Operating System 8 with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: Six-cylinder X5 models are EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined (23 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) whether you choose RWD or AWD. Fuel economy drops to 19 mpg combined (17 mpg city 22 mpg highway) for the V8-engined M60i and 15 mpg combined (13 mpg city, 18 mpg highway) for the high-performance X5 M Competition.
Which BMW X5 trim should I buy?

- X5 xDrive40i: The all-wheel-drive version of the six-cylinder model, adding AWD while keeping the same balanced powertrain.
- X5 xDrive50e: The plug-in hybrid choice, pairing the inline-six with a larger electric motor and battery pack for 483 hp, 516 lb-ft, and up to 39 miles of all-electric range.
- X5 M60i xDrive: The V8-powered performance trim, with 523 hp, 553 lb-ft, and a quicker 0-60 mph sprint.
- X5 M Competition: The top performance model, with a 617-hp twin-turbo V8 and the quickest acceleration in the lineup.
- X5 Silver Anniversary Edition: The limited-production special edition, adding Shadowline trim, a sportier wheel design, Lime Rock Grey paint, and an off-road package.
What BMW X5 do most buyers choose?
The BMW X5 years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 5,149 | 34.4% |
| 2023 | 3,601 | 36.6% |
| 2024 | 3,526 | 37% |
| 2026 | 3,403 | 33.4% |
| 2022 | 2,584 | 36.9% |
| 2027 | 2,568 | 32.1% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also usually reflect the model years shoppers are cross-shopping most actively.
What is the BMW X5's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $36,613 | −14.15% |
| 2023 | $41,652 | −13.17% |
| 2018 | $17,595 | −12.75% |
| 2021 | $32,325 | −12.72% |
| 2019 | $25,148 | −12.46% |
| 2014 | $11,712 | −12.41% |
| 2025 | $60,005 | −12.01% |
| 2017 | $15,431 | −11.46% |
| 2020 | $27,846 | −11.44% |
| 2016 | $13,941 | −10.7% |
| 2015 | $12,733 | −8.64% |
| 2024 | $52,469 | −7.85% |
| 2026 | $71,452 | −6.4% |
Most model years in the table are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it points to softer asking prices across much of the lineup. The newer models are also declining, but by smaller percentages than many older years, so recent X5s still command stronger prices. The spread suggests you can find meaningful value in several model years, especially if you’re flexible on age and trim.
The 2026, 2024, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

The SUV exceeds our expectations. From comfort to safety to style this BMW hit all points! My wife loves the sensors around the vehicle making her aware of any obstacles before incident. Overall this was our number one choice and happy with it. We also looked at the XC90, Grand Cherokee, GV80.

BMW X5 this is a very good premium crossover, I think this car loses a lot of value in the first year and then the price stays the same, it's a very decent car!

Great car with so many features. Some of the features I liked the most are Hands free driving ( Driver Assistant plus), record the parking route and replay it later for auto parking, using my phone and apple watch as a key so no need to carry physical key, live view of the car from your smartphone and so on. 46 miles of electric range and 3 different driving modes - sports, hybrid and electric makes this car one of the best cars I drove.

BMW X5 test drive
overall

BMW’s first SUV remains an integral part of the luxury brand’s lineup.
The 2025 BMW X5 is the automaker’s midsize luxury SUV, positioned between the X3 and X7, and alongside the coupe-like X6. That puts it in a well-populated segment alongside SUVs like the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, Genesis GV80, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Lexus RX, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Porsche Cayenne, and Volvo XC90. Following a substantial update for the 2024 model year, the X5 celebrates its 25th anniversary with a limited-edition model, but receives no other changes.
Verdict: The latest version of the X5 isn’t the best value, but it explains this SUV’s longevity.
